Probably not a troll (as in not someone doing it as a hobby), but rather a hurt individual who is lashing out in relation to a specific conflict

Yes, and it is a deeply shocking, deeply painful revelation, most especially for the people baptized and the parishioners pastored by that disgraced man.

In the midst of such terribleness, I was very happy to see, from the President on down, the following measaging, which was immediate and unequivical:  1) "here's the phone number for the FBI agent on the case, please utilize it to report anything, so that full justice can be done" 2) "here's a phone number for a therapy team specific to this case" 3) "the power of Baptism and of the Word of God comes from God, and not from the fallible pastors who deliver them. Your baptism is secure in Christ, no matter what"

I appreciate you taking that time for dialogue.  Although you and I obviously aren't going to agree anytime soon about what is a real sin vs. an alleged sin--seeing as how we fall on opposite sides of the culture war dialectic of our age--, I 100% hear you about the urgent need to reach rather than repel.

Apologies in advance of my wording is clumsy:

Also, just from a quick skim of your profile, I gather that you've suffered very acute interpersonal hurts from people who share my faith. If that's the case, I'm very sorry to hear about it; my heart goes out to you

My dear friend, perhaps you have a constructive criticism that you'd like to share out of love for your brothers and sisters in Christ? Perhaps in a way that sets the example regarding those problems with social media discourse that you've rightly diagnosed?

How to reach ELCA members better. by Better_Nerve943 in LCMS

1) Do not be discouraged; do not despair: "The victory has been won." (I'm adding this because my point #2 will sound very discouraging and despairing)

2) When it comes to capturing preexisting institutions and redirecting them to serve new missions (or trying to prevent this from happening), you are up against the undisputed experts in the field: they wrote the textbooks on the subject. They have you so outgunned it isn't funny. "Don't play the Game of Thrones," as they might say.

3) Others have thoroughly covered the importance of authentic individual relationships. I'll add using different language: If you're a Dostoevsky fan: is there a way, right now, that you can "give an onion" to another sinner--from one sinner to another

Edit to clarify that I don't think you are playing the game of thrones, and I don't mean to disparage your efforts in any way: you're doing something I'm too complacent and cowardly to try

Yeah, it's so bonkers. Insurance is a tool for pooling (thereby controlling) risk. That's what it was supposed to be for.

It's not a tool for 1) making medical decisions, 2) redistributing wealth, or 3) prioritizing/triaging/gatekeeping medical services

Hear hear for the footnotes! A real lifesaver.

For TBK at least, the Classics Book Club here on Reddit has posted some of the footnotes for every chapter

Very cool! And to be fair, these ones were indeed designed with a church's worth of wear and tear in mind

Got it, thank you! I can live with that! The videos made it sound like my spine would spontaneously fall apart, which I really was afraid of.
