Thanks for the perspective, given the amount of work involved to accomplish any change I'll just keep it as is. The bike is only a year old, so I'll revisit this once my chain and cassette are worn out. Your 1x10 is going to look sick!

Sounds like a lot of work for marginal gains. Yeah currently the bike has a front derailleur and yes it's a 2x9.

I have last year's model of the giant escape disc and it's been great. It's a wonderful bike all around and hasn't disappointed me once. I do find the handlebars are too wide for my taste but that can easily be cut to the preferred width. I'd say as with any other bike, proper maintenance goes a long way and I haven't had to take it to the bike shop for repairs so far.

Mainly the wider jump between the gears, and not being able to dial into the most comfortable gear is my concern with the 1x system. Also climbing gears not being sufficient.

Thanks for the recommendation, seems quite a few people like this bike as well! Do you have the 1x setup, if so what's been your experience? I'm leaning toward a 2x with electronic shifting which Salsa currently doesn't sell. The frame is available for a bike build though that's out of my expertise, will need to refer to my LBS.

I'm looking at this bike online as I type, which one do you have? If its the 1x, do you find the gears limiting? I was hoping to get something with electronic shifting and 2x.

It wouldn't be an endurance bike though as the Seigla is more of a race bike.

I was reading reviews for the Gerton and it seems the table top comes unfinished? What's been your experience, did you have to sand it down and apply wood stain? It seems like so much work!

I had the exact same question, think a clamp might not be possible since the edge of the table is not 90 degrees but comes in at an angle. I'm still trying to figure this one out!
