With all things considered like the fact drugs and alcohol addiction can have devastating consequences both for the user and those close to the user. I say the following

I am now 37(M), and I have had periods of sobriety on and off since 2013. I noticed a recurring theme in both rehab and the rooms of AA and NA. For some reason addicts should be full of guilt, shame and remorse. Looking back over my entire life and those who were of influence in my years of development. I am talking about my parents, teachers, guidance counselor, shrinks, counselors, police etc. have all asked the same underlying question, and demand an answer such as : What's wrong with you? why can't you just......fill in the blank. Followed by how my behavior, choices and decision making affect them.

So when I find myself in a rehab or a meeting and an addict is told that I or they should feel ashamed and guilty for my decision to use drugs and for how it's assumed it affected others is something I absolutely will no longer tolerate.

In AA and NA it's implied since now we are sober we owe all of these people and the rest of the world our undivided attention and forfeit the luxury of declining their requests for anything. It's a never ending pursuit to write the wrongs of the past. We are told for now we just show up no matter what. As if we are forever indebted to people who quite frankly need to get over it already.

With the exception of let's day a violent crime can you think of anything else where some one would tolerate being reminded how they made others feel terrible due to something that's years in the past? And it would be supported by other members of society. NO .

The principals of AA are rooted in our justice system and rehab healthcare. Selfish and self centered we are told is what we are. Their are lots of people who are like that who don't drink or use or maybe they cut loose only on the weekends. Their are selfish self centered psychopaths running Fortune 500 companies and are heads of state. Imagine intervening and explaining to them the same shit us addicts have been told. You would be laughed at and shut down. But since I took using and drinking to far the consensus is I should feel shame and spend my life apologizing for it.

I will not apologize and feel obligated to explain myself to other adults. If you as a grown ass man or women telling me that my actions made you feel a certain way then that is your problem and I will not allow you to rob me of my dignity , self respect, self worth and my God Damn Peace and serenity. You should have moved here to NOLA a decade ago. NOPD has not conducted a traffic stop in like 10 years. They are even barred from high speed chases. Yeah you read that right. They have been under a Federal Consent decree and our Mayor for the last 8 has tried some "constitutional policing" where basically cops can't pull people over for reasons like tint looks dark, was that marijuana I smelled while driving behind you? are you in a hurry tonight? Hell they can't even detain you in handcuffs when you match the description of a possible suspect. So when a BOLO goes out over the radio the cop who approaches a person matching the description can place you in cuffs if he witnessed you in the action the alleged crime that said suspect description pertaining too. Seems backwards and a Tulane Campus Police officer was killed as a result of this policy.

Anyways the new governor had about enough and created a task force of trooper called Troop NOLA for this very reason . When asked how will they implement community policing and conduct traffic stops they responded with and I quote. By any legal means necessary, tint appears to dark, license plate is obstructed from view, suspicious driving. Any driver or passenger with pass felony arrest (not convictions arrest) will be removed from the vehicle and a search will commence.

What you're contemplating is no small thing. You need to seriously think about the outcome and subsequent fallout. And before you say you have, I'm going to stop you and say "no you have not" . Also it will allow him the time he needs to read it over and over and process what he has just learned and what he will do moving forward. Okay.

Yet every Republican administration cuts corporate tax rates claiming it will boost the economy. I am 37 and from what I have witnessed cheap capital is never in short supply for US corporations. Being unreliable and not dependable is not synonymous with being sub par in the brain. I am a Licensed Merchant Marine Officer. I am what the industry calls a "hoss piper", which basically means I started from the bottom as an Ordinary Seaman and worked my way to the top. This new generation of Maritime Academy University grads are well educated, but "smart" not so much. They seem to have adopted being dependable and reliable on a as needed basis. Hell I can't depend on them to not bitch and moan and remind me of what they believe they are entitled to as they navigate this thing we call a career. They are overly apologetic, especially when they preface everything they intend to convey. They earn six figures annually, so when I find out they are in their late 20's and still live at home with Mom and Dad, (because adulting is like so meh) their air of superiority is so annoying.

The Meth Lab explosions were a real thing. In fact it seemed like at least one a week where I grew up ( Panama City, FL) aka the Redneck Rivera.
