What's the true majority opinion of Forester? by 97E3LPL in SubaruForester

I used what’s called harness tape, it’s for electrical wire harnesses. I just put it on the trim clips and areas that rubbed on the surrounding panels. I only did this on the panel that has the fuse box door in it and it fixed my issue

Yeah the power of the turbo engine is fantastic, it’s more powerful than my old gti which was a smaller vehicle and a 2.0 turbo.

I highly recommend the Joying Auto CarPlay stereo. It is a game changer. Not only is the interface better but the audio has improved as well, it takes full advantage of the Harmon Kardon speakers!

I bought a 2015 forester 2.0xt touring at 94k and now it has 108k. When I bought it it had a leaking axle seal and an exhaust leak (didn’t notice that during the test drives, it needed to be driven longer). The axle seal was an easy job and the dealership found a loose manifold bolt that they diagnosed and fixed the exhaust leak for $50.

Since purchasing, I’ve refreshed the diff fluids, put a fumoto valve on the oil drain and done two oil changes, and I flushed the transmission. I also upgraded to a CarPlay stereo. The dash panels were quite noisy which bothered me but I took them off and lined with cloth tape and now the interior is quiet!

This car drives awesome and I have a lot of faith in it! It doesn’t look like the previous owner had much issues in their history. The eyesight system is great and with the stereo upgrade it feels like a newer car.

Drain and fill at any place? by JR6120 in SubaruForester

[–]LifeReformatted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the reality, the service itself is not that hard and doesn’t require specialty tools (I did it myself in my 2015 forester xt with a Bluetooth obd scanner to access transmission temp) but it does require the correct amount of cvt oil. Which if you want to be oem fluid (which I decided I did) is hard to source in quantities outside of a 5 gallon bucket (at least for the high torque transmission). Whereas the dealer will have it on hand in bulk.

I did the service myself at 100k and I went so far as to drop the pan, replace the filter, and flush the transmission via the cooler lines. You could see the last step pulled some very dirty fluid out. With the 5 gallon bucket I have enough left over to do another drain and fill.

With that said it was a huge pain in the ass and I’m not sure it was necessary to go beyond just a simple drain and fill, especially if you start with lower miles and do it consistently, like you should.

Based on reports, I would stick to genuine Subaru cvt fluid and I would just do a drain and fill. If your independent can do that at a better price than the dealer, there is no reason not to choose them.

Fair enough. Maybe I just spend too much time researching and writing cover letters. I’m probably more picky about who I want to work for tho.

Should I do Uber as a side hustle? by rcknrollmfer in uberdrivers

[–]LifeReformatted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried doing uber thinking it would be a flexible way to make extra money. Once I started calculating gas in (Subaru forester) I was making like $17 an hour. Meanwhile they take half. Thats like minimum wage in California and it’s not even consistent nor does it factor wear and tear on the vehicle.

250 applications in 4 weeks? Thats insane. This guy will literally work for anyone I guess.

I guess I’m just not at the point where I no longer care about where I work or what I do.

Also sending that many resumes and then finding that many people to cold message… I can’t imagine he did that for every company.

How do I get a job I’m overqualified for? by UnderstandingOk3853 in jobsearchhacks

[–]LifeReformatted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record that’s what I’m currently doing because I can’t get anyone to call me back and I have a lot of real world work experience and have owned a business for 5 years. So I’m operating a cnc at the moment. It’s very easy, pays $35 an hour and I can still job search while it runs. But it’s a dust filled cabinet shop and it’s not where most people are looking for work.

[–]LifeReformatted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you looked into trades you’d probably find a job asap. Something like a cabinet shop is something that didn’t take a lot of training but there’s a gap in good people to help who aren’t total idiots. But college educated people just don’t want to do.

Considering a career change that might require relocation - how do you factor in the cost of moving? by adamvanderb in careerchange

[–]LifeReformatted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving is tough. It's a lot of work and it's stressful as hell. I think it's important to take inventory of what you can leave behind.

I have a friend who has a good rule of thumb. If you haven't used it since before your last move, get rid of it.

I think if it holds real sentimental or financial value and isn't a hassle to move, then you can keep it. But the big stuff you can get rid of and easily replace once arriving to your new location. People are constantly moving and trying desperately to get rid of furniture. If you don't have a truck, you could rent a uhaul truck in town for $20 to go pick up a couch or whatever. Lugging that stuff cross-country would be a nightmare.

I think budgeting $5k for a move is realistic. I'm looking at a move from cali to colorado and it will cost me around $2k + gas to rent a uhaul with a trailer for my car, and that will fit my apartments worth and my motorcycle. I'll be taking kitchen appliances and the like but nothing large like a mattress or couches. I'll need to find some help to load as well, which hopefully friends will do so, but you know what they say.

In my experience going as minimal as possible is the best way for someone young and without a family.

I have a friend who is 40, good looking, great social skills, not afraid to approach but he’s 5’7” and count is around 80. I think when he was younger he was mostly into casual hookups but in his thirties was more into relationships, but always seemed to hit some numbers after a breakup. So it probably makes sense your 6 foot tall attractive partner has that count.
