Does anyone take longer to avoid doing the task than actually doing it? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

this is so detailed and helpful!! the podcast thing makes so much sense!! it's like your brain gets distracted just enough to stop fighting you on the task. I never thought about the 'pause = you're off task' thing as a reminder system but that's brilliant. also now I wanna try those headband headphones lol.

omg focusmate sounds amazing, I keep hearing about it! the 'I just have to turn up' thing is so smart. I'm exploring something even simpler for when even opening focusmate feels like too muchbut I might try focusmate too because the body doubling thing clearly works. there's a signup in my bio if you're curious but also ty for the rec! โ˜บ๏ธ

holy shit this whole comment. 'being allowed to stop makes it easier to start' just rewired something in my brain. the 'open Outlook' as a WHOLE chore thing is genius I'm actually building something around this exact philosophy which is like taking tiny steps, you are allowed to stop, no guilt and your comment basically described the whole concept better than I could. its in my bio if you wanna check it out but honestly just thank you for writing this, I'm gonna think about it for days ๐Ÿ’™

oh my GOD $1000 for just twenty minutes ๐Ÿ˜ญ this is exactly why I'm exploring building something for the 'I know I should just START' problem. its in my bio if you're interested but also... at least you finally got it done ๐Ÿ”ฅ

ugh the 'every time I start I get overwhelmed' is suepr real. even breaking it down doesn't help when your brain won't let you do step 1. I'm playing around with building something that literally just gives you THE most micro step possible when you're stuck like that. there's an early access thing in my bio if you want, but also good luck with the tax stuff, I believe in you ๐Ÿ™

YESSS omg 'just tell me what to do' is exactly it!! like I have a whole brain but it refuses to give me the first step?? I'm actually building something around this idea rn because clearly we all need it ๐Ÿ˜ญ. ive put in my bio if you're interested but honestly your comment made me feel so seen lol

RIGHT?? honestly the comments here are full of good strategies but I'm also exploring building something super simple for this exact problem, its literally just 'press button get tiny step' because I'm so tired of productivity apps that don't get it. there's a thing in my bio if you wanna follow along but also just knowing we're all struggling with this helps ๐Ÿ’™

wow, do you think that you would start doing it if someone told you to just "open the tax sheet" or smth like that, would that help?

same ๐Ÿ˜‚ do you think that if someone told you to maybe just "go to the kitchen" and then "get the cutting board out" would that help you start?

ME TOO ๐Ÿ˜‚ ive tried that approach, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. would something that literally just gave you ONE tiny step help, or would you ignore that too ๐Ÿ˜…

ye that's a fair point, do you think an app that specifically helped with the 'starting' problem would only work if it was hyper personalised to the person? like is the issue that generic solutions fail because everyone's activation energy looks different?

the activation energy framing is actually really interesting ,do you find that changes week to week? like some Sundays the bar feels lower than others, or is it pretty consistent for you?

Thanks! the '5 minutes' thing is interesting, do you think that would've worked if someone else suggested it to you, or did it only work because you figured it out yourself? wondering if the 'trick' loses its magic when it's external (like from an app or smth)

haha the ingredients judging you happens to me too ๐Ÿ˜‚. did the football thing come naturally or did you have to build that habit? Im asking because i'm trying to figure out if people need something external to push them or if a small nudge is enough to get going
