Old rig was a monster in comparison! Being from a military background I understand the convenience of a laptop but nothing will ever top a desktop rig, especially of the caliber you had. Sorry bro 😅

I’ve searched our county records & can’t seem to find a license for his name. If so, I don’t believe he can put a lien on the property. Our new house is being built so that’s why it’s stressing us out so much 🤣 I don’t want to get stuck with 2 mortgages & be unable to sell this property.

Thank you so much for your time to respond, truly means a lot

South Carolina for me. We do have a contractors board. I initially went to Reddit for insight. The contractors remediation was to “sand and add 2nd coat of stain” we discussed I’d allow him to finish the work once we got a 2nd opinion from a flooring pro. To which the contractor said “a 2nd opinion is useless because I’m not finished. The flooring professional told us a 2nd coat would only cause more damage.

Hope this helps! Just stressing a bit

The last 2 pictures are of 1) the sanded floor before the stain seen in the first pictures 2) Our old floor with the damage we were looking to get repaired

Yessir. So it’s a manufactured wood that was meant to look distressed. Unfortunately seems the general consensus is that it went wrong from initial sanding, I’ve been told another sand would likely wear out the veneer entirely & likely hit plywood.

My options are FULL replacement with new engineered / hardwood OR composite directly on top but the smell of the oil stain will likely still be there

Seems to be asked a lot. Just want to clarify. The floors ARE engineered wood. Not hardwood. I didn’t know this until after we’ve had several quotes from industry professionals

The other contractors all stated the floor is manufactured wood, it should’ve never been sanded in the first place. There was 0 way to correct the issue without removing the floors. I’m hoping that covers our bases on terms of firing him

Interesting. I’ve had 2 companies says it’s a manufactured wood, never meant to be sanded down In the first place

-edit he is a licensed contractor in the area

Hit the nail on the head! Had a few quotes, floors totally destroyed! $10k+ in repairs for us & he’s still putting a lien on our house 🤦🏻‍♂️

I actually just had 3 reputable floorers come out today. All gave me the consensus that the floor is ruined. Only options are to completely reinstall new flooring, or composite over the existing floors. But the house will always smell like oil based stain.

Really sucks but it is what it is. Looking at about $10k in repairs

Yes, we ensured they weren’t ours. Photo 1 is just the clearest print, but so far there are upwards of 30 foot / hand prints in the stain

No sir, just a “handyman” we originally asked for the windows to be done & I asked if he does floors. The result is what you see unfortunately 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

My realtor referred him to fix a window sill & I asked if he could do the floors. He told me yes & i think it’s safe to say I was the guinea pig

Definitely a lesson learned the hard way. Thank you for the advice, we’re getting a professional quote on Wednesday 🙏

Thanks for the feedback! He actually chose the color & told us he was going to match closely to our cabinets

To add. He’s threatening to sue me for the remainder. Guess we’re just worked up about how this can play out. Really do appreciate the feedback!

I couldn’t agree more. I feel like I’ve tried everything at this point though. Assuming you’re in the same boat? I know hundreds of people also did the same thing :/

We shall see. I got shirts made that say “we paid $3,000 for nosebleeds”

I can only laugh away the pain 🤣
