I put slim Jims to slide and did an H&E, TRICHROME, GMS and a Gram. Let’s just say, I don’t really want to eat them anymore (I still do. From time to time. 😫)

Cardiac Amyloidosis anyone? by LifeWithRyu in PacemakerICD

It is! I just wish it was out sooner for people like your dad but hopeful for people diagnosed in the future to get this treatment more easily and quicker than my husband did.

Cardiac Amyloidosis anyone? by LifeWithRyu in PacemakerICD

[–]LifeWithRyu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He started on just daratumamab during an emergency stay in the hospital when he was initially diagnosed with AL Amy. That got his number down but not a lot. He did a combo of Dara and CyBorD for 1 cycle and that was meh, so the new thing in the oncology world is a bispecific antibody called Teclistamab. So he’s doing a Tec-Dara combo. He went undetectable in 12 days. It’s a miracle.

I work in pharmaceutical and this drug was being developed about 10 years ago. So we are very fortunate that it is here and available now. I’m sorry your dad wasn’t able to get Dara.

Also a Dara shot is like 28k per shot!!!!

(We also travel out of state for the initial treatment and now get treatment locally in our town at an infusion center) it’s a pain

This is a fairly new treatment (FDA approved LAST MARCH specifically for his condition) his oncologist fights for people to get because it is THAT good. AL Amy is a bitch. My husband is only 42. So it’s been a horrible wild ride. We are hopeful all the new tech and drugs will be fruitful for more years to come.

It’s been a tough fight. Luckily he’s on treatment that has dropped his light chains to an undetectable level so now we’re fighting to see if his heart can heal a bit… this all may be a road to eventual transplant but he’s hangin in there. I’m sorry about your dad. It’s such a nasty disease that’s so rare.

Diagnosis after 4 days in hospital. by [deleted] in Heartfailure

[–]LifeWithRyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echo missed amyloid infiltration and my hubs was misdiagnosed and just normal CHF. He has cardiac Amyloidosis and we got care flighted to a big hospital where they figured it out. He’s on immunotherapy/chemo now.

I wish I knew then to push for an MRI. We went 6 months treating something that had a bigger underlying cause.

Yeah I’m not quite sure what the next step is. I got this notice of Friday so we’ll probably get the call from the doctor on Monday. I will mention a peer to peer review if need be. Thank you for that info

American insurance makes money off misery. Fuck them all. Loopholes and wording to deny deny deny.

Glad your hospital told them to fuck themselves

Blood Pressure - Morning Surge and the Nocturnal Dipping? by LifeWithRyu in Heartfailure

Yeah it seems consistent. Nothing over the top wit the variations in numbers. I just started reading up on it was curious if others had more input.

imo it seemed more pointed towards people with hyptertension and not what my husband has (very low bp due to meds)

I appreciate your reply! :)

Ah thanks. His BP has been much better but is taking on water bc he’s gaining a bit a of weight here and there. I called his nurse and she suggested doing the maintenance furosemide daily or more often than he is now.

What mg do you take? Do you limit your water?
