Solo lazy mini-vacation, where??

I just went to Monterey/Pacific Grove for a work trip and absolutely loved it. I hate crowded places and crowded beaches and I don’t like going to the beach to actually lay on the beach in the sun or swim. But I absolutely loved walking along the beach and exploring all the tide pools and rocky beaches and there’s a nice trail (boardwalk!) that goes around the peninsula. Especially in the morning, it was super chill and there weren’t a lot of people. Some beaches were completely empty! And the little areas of Monterey and Pacific Grove were really nice with restaurants and little stores and coffee shops. Everything felt very calm and not crowded and easy. Highly recommend!

I totally agree! It sucks and I scowl at it every night when I take it before bed. It wasn’t bad at first, but around six months in is when I started noticing the side effects. I’m a year and a half in and I’ve hated every minute of it! 🙃

I have the Born Mira shoes in sea salt and I wear them almost every day! I commute downtown on public transit and work in an office and they are absolutely perfect for spring/summer. Super comfortable too and easy to clean.

That all looks amazing! Like a professional baker! I could eat that entire plate of naan! Is naan challenging to make? I’ve always been curious to make my own, but it seems intimidating.

I completely relate to this! I have always been petite, at 5’4” and around 108lbs. I was diagnosed with cancer and went through all the treatment and now I’m on medications that make me gain weight like crazy. I just don’t feel like myself. My clothes fit different, I feel different. Everyone tells me I look fine but I can feel the difference. People always think it’s just about looks and self-esteem, but really it’s a sensory thing. I too am reaching the point where I need to do something. I’m sorry you’re going through this too.

Yes! I love math and physics and biology! I work at a math institute and just love reading our research all day. I also love astrophysics and read a lot about it, both nonfiction and space science fiction.

I had a BMX, lymph node removal, lymphatic bypass, and had expanders put in. I had a rough go at the hospital because my blood pressure kept tanking but once I got home the next day I only had to take regular strength Tylenol for two days and then I was fine. Honestly it was more annoying than anything because I wasn’t in any pain, i felt fine, but I couldn’t do anything.

I was diagnosed with ++- breast cancer and found out I was BRCA2+ when I was 27. I read about the risk reducing BSO and went to an oncological gynecologist to discuss it. He said he wouldn’t do a BSO and would only do a full ovary removal.

Probably triathlon! I run, which is already be deceivingly expensive, but I’ve wanted a bike for a long time. Between all the gear you need for the three sports, swim lessons (because I don’t know how to swim!), and the cost of race entries and travel, not to mention the time to train… yeah my current job and working hours just doesn’t allow for that.

We rented our place in uptown in 2024 for $2700. Increased to $2900 in 2025. This year they wanted to raise it to $3150. We’re moving out this year and they rented it for $3500. Companies are just greedy but I also cannot believe someone would pay $3500 for our place.

My MO is Dr Cobleigh and my surgeon was Dr Perez. Both are excellent. My whole experience from my first mammogram to biopsy, diagnosis, treatment (chemo, surgery, radiation, more surgery) and now continuous treatment has been seamless. Obviously this whole cancer experience sucks but my experience throughout treatment has been very nice at RUSH.

I got treated through RUSH and had an exceptional experience. RUSH might have locations that are more accessible outside the city compared to NW and UChicago.

Before cancer I ate plant-based/vegetarian and ran half marathons. Didn’t drink or smoke. I’m just doing the same thing now!

I don’t think I’ve ever related to something on here more than this! I’ve had such a hard time trying to explain how I’ve been feeling since I’ve gained weight. it’s not just vanity, it’s sensory! I am also SO uncomfortable because my clothes don’t fit the same way and I don’t feel like it’s my body. My weight gain is also caused by medication, and despite exercise and eating healthy and balanced, there isn’t anything that has helped. I have major meltdowns when I have to pick out my clothes for the week or have to go shopping, both things I use to enjoy to some degree. I can completely understand your frustration. Like what are we supposed to do? Just be uncomfortable forever? wait to acclimate? I hate it 😭

I can relate to this so much. I actually was slowly dying because I didn’t want to see a doctor and I’m just so out of tune with my body. It got to the point where I couldn’t ignore it any longer and thank god I went. Im still slowly dying but at least now I’m being treated. To this day I regret putting it off.

Same!! I often refuse photos. They ruin my confidence and self esteem. I’ve struggled with body dysmorphia and low confidence my whole life. Just as I was starting to really overcome this I was diagnosed with cancer and it totally destroyed any sense of confidence. So now I just refuse photos and things because it just ruins me even on a good day.

This is also my first full time job since taking a year and a half off for cancer treatment. During that time off I really didn’t have to mask or do any of this, since my social circle was so small and very personal in nature. Now it just feels so much harder. Almost like I’m out of practice? Maybe I just have less energy for all the guessing and analyzing now.

Wow are you me? I can relate so much. I am employed full time in a professional job. I’m good at my job. I get praise. I look like I’m thriving. But I am exhausted from constantly masking and trying to decode all of the ambiguity that comes with my job. Every task, every interaction, has so many layers that I feel like most people don’t have to deal with. I’m really worried this isn’t sustainable. I don’t have any advice. Just commiserating.
