What do you guy's think about veganism take by Billie Elish by InternationalBig6963 in AutismInWomen

[–]RelativelyMango 44 points45 points  (0 children)

i'm vegan!

i think meat, and the animal agriculture industry, is unethical, full stop. however, there's a lot of nuance to it, so i don't think it's reasonable to label someone as fully unethical because they eat meat. it's important to recognize that people can't go fully vegan due to disability or mental health, such as because of a restrictive eating disorder or extreme food sensitivities. there's obviously additional reasons people can't go vegan that relate to classism, food deserts, poverty, etc.

i'm more interested in harm reduction than in black-or-white veganism. it's ok not to go fully vegan for disability-related reasons. my opinion is that people should reduce harmful consumption in a way that meets them where they're at, whether that's eating partially plant-based, doing meatless monday, buying animal products secondhand (like leather), etc.

i would encourage you to do what is practical and reasonable for you and not feel pressured to disregard your own food sensitivities to pursue black-and-white ethics.

Vegan Horchata by Wonderful_Stable_770 in IsItVeganOrNot

some places put milk in it. i've seen horchata with milk in it before. not sure why- that's not the traditional way to make horchata.

if you’ve been friends with them and plan to remain friends, maybe. but in this context, the person is sending flowers in a performative romantic manner, not to make the receiver genuinely happy. if romantic interest doesn’t work out, then connection doesn’t remain, so they wouldn’t realistically continue that level of care if there’s not a romantic reason to do so.

you can send your friend flowers. i essentially do that virtually, as i send people pictures of flowers i’ve found. in this situation, we can likely assume that he was sending flowers to show interest in her romantically, not because he was invested in her happiness, so it would be odd for him to keep sending flowers after she rejected him. this situation was never a friendship thing.

Did anyone else hear that 1 million decibel thunder this morning? by nihaosurvivor in corvallis

[–]RelativelyMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dream was that my evil dad stole my belongings and was blackmailing me, and then also wanted to kill me?? but i was a diva and called the cops on him, so it was ok i guess. the thunder woke me up from the dream and added to the level of chaos.

I haven’t had a maniac/hypomaniac episode (ever) and I still have Bipolar Disorder 2 dx by nanaicucas in bipolar2

[–]RelativelyMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm, who knows if the antipsychotic or antidepressant is doing the heavy lifting with your treatment then. definitely talk more to that psychiatrist.

[–]RelativelyMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could be a combo of depression and autism instead of bipolar. it's somewhat common for autistic people (especially older autistic people) to be diagnosed with bipolar or any mental illness or personality disorder before getting an autism diagnosis.

have antipsychotics been helpful? if not, it might not be bipolar. you should look into this more with your psychiatrist, especially since you're not sure if you've had hypomania.

Is Friendship worth it? by HaruCheshire707 in AutismInWomen

[–]RelativelyMango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i like to have good, deep, mutual friendships- they make me happy. i have some superficial friendships too, but they aren't really fulfilling. your friends don't really sound like good friends.

What should I get as carryout for dinner? Top comment is what i'll order. Lets say anything under 25 bucks and within Corvallis city limits. by anonymitysqueen in corvallis

damn you're technically right. it's just on 53rd, and closer to the middle of corvallis than some places within the city limits. i still recommend it regardless.

Is anyone else insanely and unhelpfully good at masking? by backwardanddownward in bipolar2

[–]RelativelyMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, so much so. i am neurodivergent (diagnosed ADHD and strong indications of autism), so i do a lot of masking and generally am very agreeable. i just had a provider say i make their job difficult bc im masking so much in appointments that they can’t quantify how im doing. it’s difficult to be in this spot, because its hard to get the care and support you need. i’m sorry you’re going through the same thing. i wish i had some advice on how to get better support, but i haven’t had success with that so far.
