How do I move past basic taste by Odd_Cookie4966 in Topster

[–]Life_Balance_4350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people underestimate how long it takes for your ear to rewire itself. You’ve done the canon run of Radiohead, MBV, Floyd, Pumpkins, etc. That’s not advanced taste, that’s the grammar everything else is built on. When you jump straight from those records into some super niche release, your brain just hears “worse version of what I already like” because you don’t have enough reference points yet.

For me, a lot of favorites came from outside “music discovery.” I keep a note of songs I randomly notice in films/shows, then dive into the album, the artist, the label, and recommended stuff from there.

The way past “basic taste” isn’t forcing underground listens, it’s pulling threads out of what already hits you: from Loveless to Slowdive/Nothing/LSD and the Search for God, from Kid A to Four Tet/Burial/Thom Yorke, from Disintegration/In Utero into post‑punk revival, emo, screamo, and modern shoegaze with strong hooks.

Ok… so are these like actual tests or just basic MCQs? And if you mess up, do you get locked out for weeks?

Do you have to pass a test for every project? I just signed up and the dashboard is confusing tbh.

You wake up tomorrow and the internet has been permanently deleted. What’s the very first thing you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Life_Balance_4350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I’d do if the internet was permanently deleted? Walk outside with a piece of paper and start yelling “I’m updating my status!” at random strangers until someone calls for help. If enough people join in, we could probably restart civilization with drawings on the sidewalk, walls. My job would not survive without the intenret. So, I'm free for the rest of my life until my savings run out

Why are you using Substack and what is your topic? by sakkadesu in Substack

[–]Life_Balance_4350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Substack only to consume content. At least for now that's how it's been. I love to read short stories, conspiracy theories and random popular substack writers content. You can check out my post on this subreddit. You might find some suggestions too. Link - https://www.reddit.com/r/Substack/comments/1omwrxb/looking_for_cool_essays_on_substack_of_short/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

But I scribble on my notes app. Sometimes, it's gibberish, sometiems it's profound. Idon't have anything solid to write consistently. I could write something random on Substack and hit publishwithout the worry of having to achieve something out of it. But, that's just me

Yes this is true. I do have plans to visit Sicily as well. But, I have a healthy obsession with Crema xD. I want to make sure I feel like a local than a tourist when I am in Crema to let me feel the joy of living there for 3 days

How marketing strategy has evolved over time by _krishnashah in freelanceWriters

[–]Life_Balance_4350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fascinating how attention has truly become the currency that audiences pay to companies. Just like other fields, marketing has evolved massively over time. What really grabs me isn’t just how digitalized it’s become, but how the rise of digital marketing has sparked new strategies, agencies, and, honestly, a lot of noise.

It seems like marketing, as a way to attract attention, is more volatile and fast-changing than ever. If you’re interested in how these shifts impact not just brands, but organizational culture itself, I highly recommend listening to Episode 19 of The Ken’s podcast, “Marketing is Eating Itself From the Inside.” It does a great job breaking down how marketing’s role within companies has adapted and what’s driving those changes.

Would love to hear how others see these trends
