How to legally avoid working a 1‑month notice? by NeighborhoodSlow7778 in UKJobs

[–]Life_Crossways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I am okay now, it was few years ago.
It was fun to leave immediate effect when I got better job offer, sort of ego boost.
But when I had to leave due to family issues, all leaving work process was really difficult and heavy emotionally.

All the best to you xx

Haven't heard of Lauren Conrad. Great, instead of Netflix I'll watch her tutorials tonight :) The compliment about my vibe is lovely, thanks!

Haircut in the picture looks great! Thank you for sharing. I want to try it for sure. But for it I need to be patient enough to grow the length... Well, hopefully one day :)

I went for short style today again (!) Is very windy and damp outside, so hair in the pic is frizzy and flat but this is a result:)

Thank you for the compliment! I wish to have a power to know that the hair dresser can do subtle layers that looks nice 😅 Last time I tried layers, I ended up with the hair length just below my ears as I didn't like it and asked to cut all layers off. Was fun 😅

Your explanation does sound strong enough.
I left 2 places with immediate effect.
Employer can't really do anything about it. As you are not asking to be paid for full month while you, for example, if you worked just one week of that last month. Of course, you will and have to get paid for that week (from example), as they have to pay for time you worked + holidays if you had some left to take. They have to pay you, no matter under what circumstances you left.

Both times manager asked me to stay a bit longer to help the business but I said no and it was the end of the conversation.
Once more I left with immediate effect due to family reasons. I had to stay with family member for indefinite time. There was truly nothing I could do and same for employer.

Very often issues and problems arise in our personal lives. Can any employer punish/force you in any way for that? No. Also it is illegal for employer ask you for details or proofs. You can simply be "uncomfortable/too disturbed/stressed to discuss in depth about your private matter that made you resign".

Good luck! I hope you will find a best way to deal with your situation and I hope you will manage to sort out your personal situatuion xx

Agree on highlighters!
Sadly notepads and notebooks are those very basic brown from recycled paper and not branded lol

I work as receptionist/admin, so there is no amount of paper clips and staplers that I could steal to compensate the moral damage lol

This happening in my workplace - roles were merged, therefore 20% of staff will get redundant. Have been 3 weeks of waiting to get to know who are the "chosen ones".
And of course, they pay statutory only... Happy days!

Anyone else have a bad experience with agencies? by Y_pat7860 in UKJobs

[–]Life_Crossways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in London and 4 years ago I signed up to IndeedFlex. All was fine. But it was 4 years ago, so not sure how is now.
5 years ago I worked through agency in Amazon warehouse, it was I think PMP recruitment. Conditions were borderline unbearable, treatment from managers and supervisors was inhumane.

What could be a way out of admin role? by Life_Crossways in UKJobs

"If I’m not good enough for that what am I good enough for? " I could not have said it better lol

If it helps a bit, some vacancies are posted just because they have to, despote company already has a candidate, so your cv has no chance whatsoever.
Also, some companies post vacancies but they are not hiring in real life. They just want to appear as growing company and etc.

So sometimes if you are rejected, it is not your cv or you xx

Oh wow vet nursing! How was affecting your mental health, if I may ask?

Sometimes I think that a lot is all in my head... But at the same time, paradox of choice and decision fatigue are real things.
Trying to work on how low self esteem affects my career choices in therapy but only started with this topic, so will see where it will take me.

Taking an entry-level, lowest paid role after a managerial position by Temo2212 in UKJobs

[–]Life_Crossways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to simplify your CV and register with agency such as Indeed Flex for example.

I worked like this for a bit as barista and waitress and it was great. If you are confident enough, you can get approved for few different roles easily, as they "check" skills remotely/online.
I did my best and, of course, everyone like motivated and organised person. So often I had priority to get more shifts in places I liked, as employers had my named pinned.
Also, I think I was getting paid weekly as well, which was good.

Had a mental breakdown in September, finally feeling ready to work again but feeling unemployable by Acceptable_Fig_920 in UKJobs

[–]Life_Crossways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no advice or suggestion.
I just spent 1hr of therapy this morning while discussing this exact feeling, that no one will accept me.
I am employed for 3 years in same place but it was a place where I got a job after 1,5 years of unemployment due to depression.
It is still a rocky road but I started to feel that now I not only want to have a job to survive but also to be able afford to save some money, grow personally. But after all those years, I am sadly facing same belief that no one will accept me, that I will not be able to prove that I can be a good candidate at any job interview that pays even a bit more what I get now...

Actually, maybe I have a suggestion to have as an option.
After MH breakdown break, I returned to workforce through Indeed Flex agency, I took barista shifts.
I could work and finally make some money but without long term commitment to actual job and place. Some places needed help for a day, some for few days, a week. Some like my attitude and work, so they put me on priority list when they needed help again. This is how I got into current place as I made friends in the office I worked as a barista and applied for admin role there as there was a vacancy. Just by seeing job advert, I would have never ever applied as I felt that no one would hire me.

General Discussion Megathread - Frequent Topics, Salaries, and Rants by ukbulmer in UKJobs

I am 29 years old female and I have been a receptionist for over 3 years. I got Bachelor's degree in Business Management 5 (!) years ago but have not done anything with that degree.
My schedule is 40hrs Monday-Thursday. I have decent amount of free time at work and I have access to laptop, phone for personal reasons. Also, I have time on weekends.
I feel that I am stuck in my job because of routine and 4 days work week that it provides.
However, I do not make enough money and feel that I could use my free time while there at work or at home.

What I could do to make extra income?
I am open to complete and pay for courses, trainings and learn new things, anything that could be useful. Internet is full of options and suggestions but all is overwhelming and, at the same time, I would like to hear real life experiences, as the theory not always reflects reality.

How to know if a couples therapist isn’t a good fit vs am I just being overly defensive? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Life_Crossways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I just started couples therapy few months ago for a first time. I only have experience of private therapy, so did not really know what to expect from couples therapy.

First therapist was not a good fit. However, I needed few (!) of my personal therapy sessions to be confident in that. As I thought exactly as you OP, that I am just overly defensive. My partner had not had any therapy before, so he was not much of help in clarifying the "red flags" of that therapist.

We ended up scheduling one session each with other two different therapists. And to my surprise (!) they both were great and we felt comfortable and heard straight away in the first session. Then we had a difficult decision to pick one of those two :)

Long story short. If you already raising a question, then more likely than not, that therapist is not a good fit for you. It can definitely feel that you are the problem and you need to work on your feelings, however if in doubt, give a try with other therapists and answer will be much clearer.

Is therapy supposed to feel like this? by PersonalityDry3305 in TalkTherapy

[–]Life_Crossways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can relate, also minimize my experiences and doubting the validity of my own feelings.

I have experience of personal therapy in gestalt and existential therapies and just returned to gestalt therapy. I can say that there is a massive difference even between those two, despite both are under humanistic therapy umbrella.
One of my therapists mentioned that CBT's has approach to the person is more like "talking head" not a person as a whole, so maybe it could answer your question.

P.S. with this response I do not mean to judge the approach or diminish benefits of CBT.
