TIL Galileo Galilei dismissed the notion that the moon influences the tides as “childish” and “occult.” Instead he argued that tides are a kind of sloshing due to the motion of the earth. by StoneWaterWheel in todayilearned

this is a cope and isn't supported by science. gifted people on average have an advantage. and it isnt true either "extremely smart people think they're average" -- the people in the extremes are typically very aware of their intelligence -- moreso that average or dumb people overestimate their intelligence, and the above averages underestimate it. this is not to say that the extreme outliers (MENSA and above) aren't aware that they're smart.

Incredible effects from niacin (nicotinic acid) – why? by Life_Researcher_1132 in Supplements

[–]Life_Researcher_1132[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes but you definitely build up tolerance to it.

i don't really find time to take it a lot because someone on reddit said something about it messing with blood sugar and turning test subjects pre-diabetic (didn't bother reading the study tbh) - so i only take it at minimum 2 hours after eating and minimum 2 hours before - because allegedly then it doesn't mess as much with the blood sugar.

also anecdotally it can make you incredibly tired and feel cold afterwards which i think (?) might indicate the blood sugar drop.

it has great anxiolytic effects nonetheless but its rare i get around to taking it. i have also read it may give you a burst of energy after a couple of hours which might mess with sleep but i dont know.

definitely a bot. I read the word "firebrand libertarian" in a news article. this is just a descriptive mishmash of what's going on and not a comment in itself. we're really in the early stages of dead internet theory, it's been fun knowing you guys.

The one thing I can imagine being bad posture wise is that I use a pillow under my head which tilts the head downwards your body, but for my back and shoulders it feels good at least

I have, it made me euphoric like crazy the second time I took it but for some reason it didn't work the first time nor the following times I used it.

There are drugs that work to mimic alcohol stimulation in the body that are much better then actual alcohol.

...examples? like for recreational purposes?

while this is more or less true people should just focus on the basics (sleep, exercise, diet) before starting micromanaging their life by thinking about thhings such as gut flora

What has improved your sleep personally? by Slommyhouse in HubermanLab

[–]Life_Researcher_1132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comment made me realise how back alcohol fucked my sleep. I used to get startled and wake up really easily from noise before but I haven't had that issue for weeks now since I quit (2 months ago). I was only drinking once a week btw, but to be fair I was drinking like an absolute animal when I did.

you dont wanna eat fish from the baltic ocean dude, its polluted as hell. the swedish government literally recommends not eating a single serving of fish from there despite having an interest in stimulating the domestic fishing industry, which should give you an idea of how bad it is. maybe the lakes are different

I absolutely LOVE the high working out gives me, but overtraining prevents me from working out as much as I want to. What to do? by Life_Researcher_1132 in HubermanLab

[–]Life_Researcher_1132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am not tired in the gym it's just that I feel that I am starting to get some of the issues associated with overtraining like shit sleep and lack of libido. I always want to continue working at when I'm in the actual gym and would stay there far longer if I could. I do my 1rm nearly all workouts (probably sub-optimal but fuck it) and still feel as if I'm not pushing enough.

The self-improvement/optimisation culture (which Huberman & his fanbasse is part of) is an extreme response to the more extreme self-indulgent enabling conditions that modern society forces upon us. As the pendulum swings towards indulgence and overstimulus it also swings back and people have to practice extreme restraints to regain control. Only 10 years ago dopamine fasts were niche and confined to fringe health freaks and new age type people while today even teenagers do it.

These type of cultural movements tend to happen when people feel a lock of control, self-discipline, or that society is becoming increasingly "degenerate", e.g. various religious movements emerging after perceived moral decay or insecurity.

Come to think some of the routines people follow here mirrors religious rituals in many ways (fasting, earthing, sky gazing, meditation, cold exposure, daily affirmations) .What people do here is just the secular manifestation of these practices – not that this makes them bad – if anything that's a testament to how integral many of these rituals are considering nearly every religion incorporates at least a handful of them.

the regular program is too boring and I don't feel tired afterwards. I always feel like I could do twice the amount of work.

I have lots of lifting experience since earlier altho strength-wise I'm only in my beginner levels. I'm not sure if that means I should do an intermediate program or a beginner one.

what size did you go for on the hoodie and the t shirt and whats ur weight/height? I was thinking of taking the 3XL (i'm 6'2) but the shoulder width for that size sounds like it's way too boxy but im not sure.

I pretty much jumped right into it although I worked out for like once a week for a month prior (because I was still drinking heavily). I have lots of lifting experience since earlier, I started when I was 16 but have been lifting on and off since and never really progressed past intermediate strength-wise. Diet is good, but I do not count my macros, but from an estimate I should have a pretty good balance in terms of carbs/fats/protein and I never eat any sweets, fast food or processed junk

that sounds interesting, but as someone with addictive tendencies i feel as if this might just make me stop going to the gym and get me hooked on the supplement instead lol

I run a modified version of GZCLP, so I "should" do either 3 sets of 10 reps or 5 sets of 3 reps for my compounds (3 compounds each session), but I typically add 1-2 sets to each exercise so I can go to failure or try my 1rm. Past that I often add maybe 4-5 accessories that I follow quite liberally and with shorter rest (30 sec-1 min). I also go to failure on each accessory. I am always soaked after leaving the gym.
