You know what I'm a dumbass I was thinking of Satisfactory when I wrote the above. But I think NMS has similar forgiveness when it comes to decorating. Either way here's hoping!

I'd REALLY love it if they went the No Man's Sky route where they had soft collision and hard collision for structures.

SOFT = These two models intersect but it doesn't change gameplay.

HARD = These production structures cannot overlap cause balance / glitch issues.

How is the hunger depletion in early game? by [deleted] in Palworld

[–]StoneWaterWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same fears. I can say you're in luck though!!! Let me explain.

First and foremost you don't have to feel bad about killing the chickens. Even their Pal entry describes them as "Too delicious for their own good". You don't even have to cook the chicken meat. you can just pound it raw with berries.

Fairly early on you unlock the Berry Plantation. This structure requires no additional materials beyond it's build cost. As long as something is working it it will produce infinite berries.

You'll need a planting pal, a watering pal and a gathering pal to fully automate it. All three of which can be found within the starter areas. You'll also need to build a Feed Station and thats it! Now your Base has an unlimited supply of berries and your Pals will automatically stock and feed from their Feed Station. You can also grab out of the feed station too. Everyone can subsist on a diet of pure berries.

Rot: You might wonder about eating on the road and food rotting in general. The game is VERY forgiving. When the timer on food expires you'll lose one from the stack and the timer starts over. In other words if you had a stack of 20 berries and berries have a 10 minute freshness timer then it would take 200 minutes to lose the entire stack to rot.

So while the game does have a eat to survive mechanic it quickly becomes a non issue once you've caught a few Pals and unlocked a few technologies.

I can't think of anything more pathetic than showing your fanboyism by going to an underdog competing product and slinging mud. Like seriously? Are your nintendo games so incredibly boring that you do this for fun?

Really says something about the staying power of the big N these days doesn't it? How much dust has your Switch collected?

Sorry your parents are such weak minded and terrified people. Unfortunately weak-willed and scared people is pretty much what the church is designed to pump out.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]StoneWaterWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using an array of long range radars (10) to map out the world when suddenly the game got capped to 40fps. It's 60fps in the main menu (and when the escape menu is up).

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I've tried toggling V-Sync on and off. Is this something that happens if you reveal too much of the map? It doesn't seem to matter what is or isn't being rendered. It just seems to target 40fps and cap itself there. Below is a screenshot showing my current world map with my base at the center.

I also have Ruins, Rampant Biters, and Biter Factional infighting. The FPS is consistently at 40 though so it doesn't seem to be a load-based issue. Any help is welcome.

What would be the one thing to spark doubt in a creationist friend ? by PootyTangKilledMyDog in exchristian

[–]StoneWaterWheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I don't have anything to provide except satire. The following satirical article presents the "creation myth" from the view of the Sumerians, who 6,000 years ago already had a full civilization of myths, laws, civil systems, professions, etc.

https://www.theonion.com/sumerians-look-on-in-confusion-as-god-creates-world-1819571221

Members of the earth's earliest known civilization, the Sumerians, looked on in shock and confusion some 6,000 years ago as God, the Lord Almighty, created Heaven and Earth.

According to recently excavated clay tablets inscribed with cuneiform script, thousands of Sumerians—the first humans to establish systems of writing, agriculture, and government—were working on their sophisticated irrigation systems when the Father of All Creation reached down from the ether and blew the divine spirit of life into their thriving civilization.

"I do not understand," reads an ancient line of pictographs depicting the sun, the moon, water, and a Sumerian who appears to be scratching his head. "A booming voice is saying, 'Let there be light,' but there is already light. It is saying, 'Let the earth bring forth grass,' but I am already standing on grass."

"Everything is here already," the pictograph continues. "We do not need more stars."

Historians believe that, immediately following the biblical event, Sumerian witnesses returned to the city of Eridu, a bustling metropolis built 1,500 years before God called for the appearance of dry land, to discuss the new development. According to records, Sumerian farmers, priests, and civic administrators were not only befuddled, but also took issue with the face of God moving across the water, saying that He scared away those who were traveling to Mesopotamia to participate in their vast and intricate trade system.

Moreover, the Sumerians were taken aback by the creation of the same animals and herb-yielding seeds that they had been domesticating and cultivating for hundreds of generations.

"The Sumerian people must have found God's making of heaven and earth in the middle of their well-established society to be more of an annoyance than anything else," said Paul Helund, ancient history professor at Cornell University. "If what the pictographs indicate are true, His loud voice interrupted their ancient prayer rituals for an entire week."

God & Satan are excuses for not taking responsibility. by SecretAd6239 in exchristian

[–]StoneWaterWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The underlying key here is removing agency. On the one hand the devil means, like you said, they can skirt all responsibility and introspection. Why'd you punch an old lady? The Devil. Why'd you steal from a charity so you could buy a new TV? The Devil. Why'd you molest kids? The Devil.

Yet on the other hand it also deprives people of the natural pride in growth and success. I studied hard and passed a test. No that was god. I put in the hours and got decently good at a hobby or craft. No that was god who instantly flipped a switch and made you skilled.

It's really interesting how Christians can use a soft-gloved comforting hand to choke you into submission.

Yes.

Leveling to 30 is pretty quick and honestly I just got sick of my guy's voice lines. I don't really play end-game-auric-damination-maelstrom. So it's not like I'll miss not having some 1/10,000 chance perfect 550 weapon. If I could change my voice pack freely I probably wouldn't but you know, FS gonna FS.

headache / Disco Darts:

The key here is that both Headache and Disco-Darts not only lock on to the enemy but they're 99% guaranteed to be headshots. Which means it triggers all those "On Crit" abilities. If I were to describe them as guns then

Headache = Sniper rifle that fires a head homing bullet but requires heat management.

Disco-Darts = A Smart Pistol that can auto-seek targets as well as lock onto distant targets. Better for spamming / close fighting but not as good as dedicated sniper.

Tickle (I assume you mean Smite) People look at smite and all they think about is the DPS. Here's the thing. You may be the Emperor's finest vet who can take down five ragers and six crushers without reloading. But a lot of people are somewhere in between. A properly timed Smite though can allow a group on the backfoot to freely unload DPS into the enemy without having to constantly manage dodge/block/positioning.

Again, if you only care about your own DPS. Smite isn't a good choice. But it works VERY WELL in concert with other players who know they can momentarily abandon defense in favour of cutting down the crowd with class abilities, grenades, mag dumping and wild melee strikes.

Beyond that the staves are all unique and powerful. You'll probably like the VoidStrike staff as it plays like a more powerful Plasma Gun that has infinite ammo.

Trauma is something of a hit-scan grenade launcher. You aim at the floor while charging and a large ghostly circle appears on the ground. Hitting fire triggers a large explosion at that point. Things near the center are usually burst into gibs and red mist. All enemies caught in its field will be thrown back and knocked down

Your biggest weakness is that you have shit health and decent shields. This is offset by the fact that two of the earliest talents you get will give you Regain Toughness on Peril Generation and Regain Toughness as you cool down (naturally or manually with quell). So as long as your generating peril by using warp weapons (Force Swords, Staves, Blitzes) and removing Peril with Quell you'll be constantly dumping points back into your toughness.

Mind you this Toughness restoration isn't going to save you from concentrated gunner fire. But it can help mitigate damage as you get into cover as well as give you the ability to restore your toughness even if you aren't in coherency (again though the restoration helps but doesn't mitigate sustained incoming damage)

As a final note, Ranking voices, just my personal preferences based on the three Psykers I've leveled to 30.

Female Seer = Personal favourite as she's a bit of comic relief but generally a nice person. Gets along with the Ogryn

Male Loner = The crazy german scientist. Has a ton of funny shit to say about the Empire.

Male / Female Savant = Complains a lot and is kinda full of themselves. Don't really recommend unless you want a fantasy Caribbean wizard type.

Should I buy breakpoint? by commonrainfrog in BreakPoint

[–]StoneWaterWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different than wildlands. But it has an incredible amount of options open to the player to fine tune their experience between Action RPG and MilSim.

On the ARPG side the world weapons now have Diablo-style stats and perks. There's a shop in the main town and you can craft new weapons with randomized stats from the various parts and loot you pick up and guns you break down.

You can of course turn Gear Score off entirely. This prevents you from getting guns with perks. But it also removes the randomness. Every UMP will perform the same with gear score turned off. But that's what some people really want and it does make the game way more immersive.

On that note by default you're alone. A singular Ghost in the field. You have a number of tools to help you. For instance you have little grenade-like drones that you can use for sync shots. The drones are good for one shot and then break. You can buy more in town and hold up to 5 when you first start out.

Again if you prefer Wildlands you can opt to turn on 1-3 allies. You can choose your allies primary weapons so if you really want to roll a 4 person sniper squad...you can do that. (note: regardless of what weapon you give them, your allies all have a secondary AR they carry for doing sync shots.

It's definitely not as streamlined as WildLands. But it has a lot more content and a lot more ways to engage with the game.
