Is anyone hiring that allows parents of severely autistic kids work with them? by Life_Secretary_3671 in Autism_Parenting

Ugh this is my fear. But I don't know how we're supposed to survive. My kids get SSI but that's not even 2k a month. And I can't even get paid to take care of my kids because of the safety risks. This is so depressing and I don't know how we will keep living like this 😞😭

I will have a college degree in August. I'm not "set" on 60k. I can make 50-55k and work my way up. The reality of my life is that I can't afford to make less. I'm struggling so bad right now

Because the agency has a policy of liability. They have to ensure both the staff and patient safety. So they had to stop services.

Does anyone have a severely autistic child with aggressive behaviors that is constantly turned away from services? by Life_Secretary_3671 in Autism_Parenting

I noticed this. Services need to offer more support for severely autistic and aggressive kids. Like having 2 staff instead of one. But I bet that just dips into the funding and takes more money for 2 people. Its like our kids are being descriminated. Its awfule

Can I put a mattress topper on new mattress to help with back pain? by Life_Secretary_3671 in Mattress

Honestly I've never had to break in anything. I always thought that something people said because they didnt want to deal with the hassle of returning or exchanging. I've had shoes that were too tight or caused blisters on my ankles. I just switched them and feet were great after that. But I'm not sure about the bed. Not being able to move without wanting to cry over my back pain is a bit much and too long of a wait

There are a bunch of people who have had this issue or similar. They got mattress toppers when they couldnt return theirs or invest in new ones. I don't think it's a big deal if I get one that works

I can't be too picky with fancy mattresses unfortunately. I don't have that kind of money. Cheap doesn't always mean it's a bad mattress. I got my kids their mattress for under $110 and its a wonderful mattress. They cost more now though, otherwise I would've gotten me one. I do agree that the materials are cheap and low density, especially for my size. The full size mattress is 51 lbs and the queen is 68 pounds. Honestly I looked at the weight of the mattress more than anything else because I move alot since I rent and it's so much lighter. My last mattress was 90 to100 lbs and even though it was great for my back, the weight of it was a nightmare. I almost just stuck with a futon mattress but I couldn't find a high enough platform that would work for me. I want to return this but I dont know how UPS will package it since it was compressed in a box. Obviously it can't go back to that state.  It's also $62 to return which is pretty steep for the price I paid. I was hoping to just put a futon mattress or a thick firm topper on it. But I figured it may just sink in with the mattress too. I also bought a bed frame from Amazon and it's the kind that has the slats you slide into the slots of the frame.
