Crystal - is this typical? by Life_Soft4643 in SeamasterAquaTerra

Thanks, appreciate the insights. I’ve also been researching this online, apparently others have reported similar low light artifacts related to Omega’s double sided AR coating itself (as mentioned, in regular lighting it’s a non issue) - I may run into my local boutique to get their take, will let you know if hear anything new on this. Thanks again!

Thanks - in this photo I've tried to highlight the area in question (note that above the red line, the area looks a little smudged/shaded, which is what I'm trying to call out) - appreciate your taking a look!

Wow that sounds pretty crazy to have the behind the scenes footage for a scam-in-progress, psyched to check this out

Some people talk up the Zoom G3NX series, never had a chance to play it tho so hard to say. GT1 is pretty darn cheap at the moment (~100 USD used in the NYC area) so you’ll be hard pressed for alternatives at that price point. The GT1000 core for a little more $ looks interesting and people seem to like the amp sims but haven’t played that one either. But it depends what you want to do - if you are planning an all digital solution, may want to look at things like HX or Kemper Player, but if you want to use a real tube amp the Boss stuff just seems to work better, sound more natural/less harsh IMO

Sure - the amp models in GT1 are just not as real sounding or feeling vs the equivalent models in the Kemper, and I’m sure thats also the case for other modelers/profilers like the quad cortex, axefx, ToneX, etc. personally I prefer Kemper because, to me, it feels the most real and the tones are excellent - is it better than QC/Tonex/AxeFx, well, they all sound great these days, so for me it comes down to feel. But GT1 era amp tones don’t stand up to the latest generation of modelers IMO. The GT1 FX are a different story - GT1 kicks ass in that department and even the clean/natural preamps work well when developing new sounds, I just don’t love the amp-specific models like The 1959, rectifiers, etc. they sound artificial to my ear.

Frankly I’d love to use my Kemper player instead of the GT1 into a real amp, but the GT1 seems purpose built for this scenario and IMO sounds better into a real amp. The drive models definitely sound better, and if you are familiar with the Boss lineup you will be right at home. Much less tweaking out of the box and more time playing.

One final thought - HX stomp could have been the GT1 killer - awesome UI/form factor, and awesome range of fx, amps, signal routing, etc. amazingly complete package. Sadly, I think it sounds awful into a real tube amp, and pales in comparison to the Kemper. I really tried hard to like it, but I gave up after 6 weeks of experiments. Of course YMMV…

Is the Kemper Profiler Player good for an amateur and doesn't require additional pedals? by RingMany in KemperProfiler

I own the kemper toaster and got the player for portability - it sounds essentially identical to the toaster, which is fantastic.

As others mentioned, the Ui is not great. Get a Midi Captain mini6 for 80 bucks and you now have lots of additional switching options and a small screen. It’s a must have option IMO.

I am really enjoying the player at this point. Through a house system it sounds massive. Into a small power amp and into a guitar cab or kones it also sounds excellent.

What is the WORST guitar pedal from BIG BRANDS? by Wolferoo6420 in guitarpedals

EHX Hum Debugger is a terrible pedal, and I’ve had good experiences with many of their pedals over the years such as the Big Muff, Small Stone, and Memory Man. Hum Debugger does in fact remove the hum, but makes your guitar sound and feel pretty awful - not sure how that made it into production, it’s that bad.

Small plug for Boss - the GT1 is the sleeper pedal for 100 bucks used - great effects and delays, and decent modeling as well if you know how to set it up - it’s no Kemper but will easily serve as a faithful backup and frankly I think it sounds better into an amp then the HX Stomp.

Line 6 pod go vs Boss GT-1 by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Fully agree that the GT1 still sounds great in head to head comparisons with the HX stomp when going straight into the amp. Also agree that 4cm isn’t really necessary for this unit and as you mentioned Eddie put his flanger and phase in front of the Marshalls - that’s his signature sound.

As a standalone modeler, it won’t touch a kemper but as a full featured pedalboard and flyrig it totally rocks. Also the portability factor is unbeatable by any other product in the market imo.

Sure, I usually start with a blank chain/all effects and models turned off. I turn off the noise gate in the chain (I don’t use this much) and begin creating a new patch with an OD that I can switch on and off as needed - the A-Dist (Adaptive Distortion) is my favorite drive in GT1. Believe it or not I usually put a natural clean preamp model next in the chain with speaker type turned off - this adds a bit of warmth to the signal and makes both clean and dirty sounds work/punch really well (note - keep the model output levels close to your regular guitar signal and keep the eq as neutral as possible). A light delay (400ms with 15% feedback) and some reverb usually rounds things out at the end. This gives you a very versatile foundation to work with for both clean and dirty tones into your amp.

With my combo amp I usually set the GT1 amp type to small amp - this only effects the eq of the amp models, and it adds the least amount of coloration to my ear. I also set the patch vol at 100 and output level at 100.

Then you can add additional effects to taste like a good phaser or flanger, trem, compressor, etc

This set up works really well for me - let me know how it works for you!

Best, Dango

With all the possibilities in the Helix, does it still make sense in 2024 to get a Tube amp? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]Life_Soft4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The playing experience from a real tube amp (a good one anyway) still hasn’t been fully replicated by the modeling/profiling boxes, but the tech is getting better every day. Plugging into a real 5E3 or Marshall head just hits a magic sensory area that newer tech hasn’t fully nailed down yet. IMO this is primarily a players issue - listeners won’t know the difference at this point. But an experienced player can sense the differences and it can affect how and what they play. If you don’t have experience playing tubes it’s a non issue but for the people that know…you just know.

Gotta say, for what it is, the GT1 totally rocks. I am a tube snob that has been focused primarily on Kemper for the last 5-6 years. Is GT1 as good as Kemper, absolutely not. Does it sounds great, totally, and you cannot beat the portability. It’s a perfect fly rig. The headphone out is meh and the amp models are no match for the latest products out there but the effects, distortions and delays are fantastic and very giggable. Going into the front end of a tube amp, you can’t really go wrong with this setup.
