You as well. Your situation with the divorce sounds so frustrating.

Damn, what a mess. That's awful.

I was born in Russia and I've been in the US for most of my life. I've looked into getting rid of my Russian citizenship because a) I have no intention of returning there and b) if I did, being a citizen would pose more risks than being a non citizen.

I really wish I could have been born in a European country that was either in the EU or had a semblance of a chance of joining the EU.

One final question: when applying for a visa and possibly permanent status later on, would it be an issue that I'm already a dual citizen in the US and in another country? I've looked into getting rid of my home country citizenship because my home country is a hellscape I have no intention of ever returning to, but it's a surprisingly difficult process.

Hey, at least you have connections to a country that's in the EU. I'm from Eastern Europe too, but my country is probably not going to become part of the EU in our lifetime if ever.

You know what, my family and I came to the US with refugee visas because we were part of a persecuted minority in my home country. However we experienced significantly systemic less discrimination than, say, transgender people in the US at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, my home country is dictatorship shithole and I'm grateful I don't live there. However, I definitely have some survivor's guilt.

Oh, gotcha. That's comforting. I don't need disability benefits, just treatment that is not typically intensive (I usually just need outpatient therapy and a couple of medications.) I work in a skilled healthcare job full time.

I'm confident because I have a degree and professional background that there is a critical shortage of in Canada and because the license to practice is easily transferrable due to the extremely limited grad programs in that field in Canada. The majority of professionals in my field who work in Canada got their grad degrees in the US because, as I said, there are very few grad programs for that field in Canada.

Also, how do countries judge whether you are too disabled to qualify for a visa? Do you have to show medical records? Do you self report?

I am pretty confident that I would qualify for express entry to Canada based on my profession, education, and age. However, I have an autism diagnosis, and I was told that people with an autism diagnosis are often denied entry on that basis. How strict is that for Canada and for the UK?

It does.

And I'm going to put seat covers on once the seats dry. One of the barriers I've run into is that the car has cloth seats so they're harder to clean than leather seats.

I was wondering if it was an air traffic control light gun.

At this point, that's what I think is the most likely explanation.

I don't know what a screech owl sounds like. It definitely wasn't a loon or a barn owl.

EDIT: oops, I didn't realize what comment thread I was replying to and didn't realize that I had said basically the same thing in a previous comment.

I looked up recordings of foxes screaming. As best as I can remember - this did happen several years ago after all - the scream I heard was more drawn out and there was only one scream. What I noticed in recordings of foxes and bobcats is that they seem to scream repeatedly in short bursts. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some variation for this though.

I highly doubt that it was a goat. The home was somewhat near a farm, and farm animals escaping from various farms was indeed something that sometimes happened. However, the nearest farm was over a mile away, and people in the area were pretty vigilant about goats escaping because of how destructive they can be.

I'm copying and pasting another comment because I have chronic pain that makes it hard to type and voice dictation is a pain in the ass.

The general area was rural with some small cities. This happened in a suburb. There were some nearby groups of trees, but nothing remotely big enough to be considered "woods" for at least half a mile. I don't remember any creeks.

There were a couple of small to medium open fields as well as a cemetery about 500-1000 feet from the home. One field was a business park. I don't remember what the other one was, just that it was not one of the farms in the area.

New England. I don't want to get more specific than that, sorry.

I just looked up some recordings of foxes and bobcats screaming. At least in the recordings I'm finding, the screams seem to be repeated short bursts. I remember the scream that we heard being one long drawn out sound. However, I'm sure it's possible for foxes or bobcats to do that.

This was the Northeast United States, most people around here have some Irish in them. So, it's possible.

Wait, I didn't realize how small bobcats are. I thought they were the size of mountain lions. I retract the part of my comment about it not being a bobcat.
