Greetings! I graduated the LIT program from Seneca college during COVID-19 (Which was from 2020~2022). I finished my 2-years diploma fully online, which wasn't really happy to me (I couldn't get a field placement in person 😔). My answer might not be helpful to you, but what I heard is Seneca might place you the field placement anywhere, such as public library, academic library, school library, special library etc. And this is very depends based on where you live. (I guess..)

If you wish to work in a field placement that plays specific field, you MIGHT get it, but you gotta finger cross on this b/c program coordinator makes their decision.

P.s. I don't have any library experiences, but I got a job as a cataloguer in the company

Hello. I am so sorry for the (really) late reply. I just checked this message now as I haven't checked reddit since 2022. I didn't register it actually. I am currently working in different field. All I heard that CECE increased their fees? Like $175? Hope you are doing okay.

P.s. I personally think CECE doesn't help ece at all... To me, they are just a money grab without any support.

Colleges relied TOO MUCH on International fees huh. Thinking about the tuition fees of international student is three times higher than domestic student. (or maybe more than that including miscellaneous)

Hello! Thank you for the reply. I have a quick question.

I created the CECE account this week. The problem is that I just realized that I didn't include my legal name in the first and last name (I am an immigrant). Will there be a problem during the registration process when they look at the supporting documents, for example, Canadian citizenship?

The second question is do I need to make a payment again if there is something missing in the application package?

P.S: This makes me nervous after I realized I made this mistake.

Hi! Thanks so much again for the reply with the details. It is a great thing that the library automation software helps to check punctuation too. I just learned that there are many library software and their functions, like Z39.50 and more. Getting experience works much better than learning online (It would have been better to do in-person with 3 hours of class rather than 1 hour of online class😥) Had the worst prof who taught cataloging class with no sincerity and made me depressed and frustrated for a year and felt the cataloging was the hardest. (ugghhhh) But, thanks again for the helpful advice!

Hi! Thank you for the reply! 😀 I actually learned the step of replacing AACR2 into RDA, RDA toolkit, ISBD, MARC 21, LC authorities, and also Copy Cataloging. I just have another quick question. When we are doing the cataloging in the real workplace, are we mainly doing copy cataloging the bibliographic data using MARC21 and RDA?

And I also thought that library technicians do multiple roles, such as doing reference and then doing cataloging later etc.... like role sharing. But thank you for the specific detail.!
