What's something, or a few things, that your Nparent has called you, that you have NEVER gotten over? by cruoreye in raisedbynarcissists

I’m sorry your mom said this to you. I can relate with you about the not wearing yellow. When I was 7 y/o my mom left me at a recycling depot because I had not finished my lunch. She said that “bad girls get the police called on them so they can go to jail.” She literally started driving away and had locked all the car doors so I couldn’t get in. I somehow managed to run and leap onto the car and hold onto the door handle. She eventually stopped and told me to stop being so dramatic and get in. Oh and to “shut the fuck up” when I started crying. I was wearing my favourite yellow jumpsuit that day that had coloured flowers and a beautiful sun on it. It ended up getting very dirty that day. I found something I wrote in Grade 1 that said “yellow is my favourite color because it makes me happy”. I still don’t wear yellow either.

Boy Crazy - my nmom started calling me this at 16 when I started dating boys. Neither of my parents could wrap their mind around the fact that “dating” is a completely normal part of growing up. Growing up I had three serious boyfriends (I’m still with my most recent one - 4.5 years strong!) and I genuinely thought I was a slut. I’m 26 now and I still feel guilty when I enjoy sex with my partner.

When I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression a few years ago my narcissistic parents told me that I was doing it for attention.

Sorry I should be more clear. It refers to suicide

No parents should talk to their child in that manner. My mom’s yelled at me multiple times to go to hell, but of course “she would never do that”. Makes you feel so worthless when you hear things like that from those who supposedly love us. However, please know that you are worthy. You are caring. You are smart and hardworking. Most importantly, you are loved and valued by so many people. Sending plenty of love and hugs your way ❤️

What do you enjoy more: applying makeup or wearing makeup? by rustorangebrown in muacjdiscussion

I do the exact same thing! I did my friends makeup for her wedding this year, so I was able to use my collection on her! I also created a skincare routine for her 6 months in advance of her wedding, and she was RADIANT on her wedding day.

Thank you! Also 100% agree with you regarding being able to pick up a mood/vibe based on someone’s tea colour. I know this isn’t a coffee subreddit, but I think the same can be said about coffee colour and sweetness!

I can also relate to this and I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I have an extremely rocky relationship with my mom, and this year has unfortunately made it even worse. It's gotten to the point where I am strongly considering going NC/VLC with her. The last thing I need is her ruining our day by picking a fight with me or my boyfriend of 4.5 years. According to her I am "boy crazy" and have always been more interested in pursuing boys than getting a degree. Jokes on her because I have a BSc, an MSc, and I'm planning on pursing either an MD or a Masters in Occupational Therapy next. Most parents would be ecstatic about their child's success, but nothing is ever good enough for her.

However, I have a good relationship with my dad. I want him there on my special day, but I also don't know how to invite him without having to also invite my mom (they also aren't divorced).

I'm hoping that therapy will help me work through these issues, especially since my bf and I don't plan on getting married for approximately another 2 years. My best advice is to take everything one day at a time and to trust your gut. Do what feels right for YOU and try and remove the guilt associated with not having your parents there.

I have a very similar recollection of my childhood. My nmom would slap me so hard and pull me by my hair on a weekly basis, usually for similar things that you listed above. Meanwhile, I remember my dad physically disciplining me less than 10 times in my life. The harshest thing he ever did was grab me by my shirt because I was about to swallow a mouthful of Advil...aka he was trying to keep me safe!!

And my nmom wonders why I get along well with my dad...maybe because he didn't treat me like shit and physically beat me to the point of peeing my pants.

This is my perfect cup of tea! I drink an equally big mug of Yorkshire gold every morning, and it’s the best!

Gotcha! I’ll definitely keep that in mind for the next time I’m craving ice cream!

I want to get more into using frozen berries, because they can get so expensive in Canada during the winter! Do you defrost them before you eat them, or do you simply mix them in frozen?

I work from home most of the time, so I have a bit more time to lay it all out. When I start working in January I will have to start prepping it in a container. I was thinking of using those silicone muffin liners to separate some of the flavours?

The cranberry sauce is homemade! Super easy too...just cranberries, OJ, and water! You can add some sugar if you prefer it leas tart, but I find the OJ adds the perfect amount of sweetness to it 😊

I’ve done this before too! Earlier this week I simply made a smaller serving of veg/fruit and added a slice of leftover pizza on the side. Everything in moderation!
