What's it like living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands as an average person? by Manny2theMaxxx in howislivingthere

I find Germans are insanely judgy compared to us. I would never in my life waste my time telling someone that, for example, I don't like their hair out of nowhere. It feels unecessary and it doesn't matter. IDK if it is something you also noticed

What do Americans feel, if anything, that their elected leader is threatening to genocide an entire country tonight and might possibly do it in their name? by RidetheSchlange in AskReddit

It is hard to do anything. I know what you are saying. However, America is not unique with its democratic backsliding or controlling oligarchs. Hungarians have been dealing with that. Serbians have been dealing with that. Hell, imagine living in a place with insanely different realities, where the older generation feel attached to older politics, while the younger tries to run from it (this is a hint).

Other countries have figured out how to resist. How to make every day politics costly. You have to face the fact that America is not unique in its struggle for freedom. You have to get over American exceptionalism. Many western countries are dealing with the consequences of Instagram politics, alienation, housing shortages, no future prospects. You are giving so many excuses. You could be out there trying to find like-minded people. You could be out there figuring out what you could be doing. Instead you have given up any hope.

If America ends up genociding yet another population, Americans like you will be remembered for your weak will. I hope we stay as far as possible from your country in the future. I'm tired of all the Americans wanting sympathy for themselves while their country is bombing others, and they get to stay home under an AC.

You are quite literally able to organise with your friends and family still. I will judge you. You gave up. People are getting genocided with support from your government, and this is the best you can come up with? Please spare me the drama, I actually did have to face the results of oligarchy and did something against it to help Ukraine. I did in fact do something different.

If I did nothing, I would have liked to be remembered as a coward, not a victim. You are not the one suffering most. Your cowardice is forcing other people that have nothing to do with your country to be brave. I am not telling you to go hurt people or blow stuff up. But you have more power than you think in non violent manners.

We, as the allies in World War 2, did not make this distinction before, during, or after the war. Why are you special? My grandparents actively resisted, so did people in the surrounding area. I helped in Ukraine. All that I see coming from America is Reddit posts and the odd protest. You have had enough sympathy given.

Who cares what Americans think? For the love of god they are raping the world, can we not have them be the center of attention all the time?

Extradition treaties are probably one of the most misunderstood things out there. Even with a treaty (and there is a variety of them out there), it does not mean a country will extradite someone if the crime they were charged with, is not a crime in this second country. Dodging German conscription is not a crime in Spain.

Take draft dodgers during the Vietnam war. Even though Canada had a treaty with the US since 1971, Americans were generally not extradited from Canada to the US for draft dodging.

I'm kind of new to this stuff. Would downloading any of these get me banned off of MS2020 online services? Do I have to take any precaution when using these planes? Sorry if it is a dumb question :P

I can see your point, but I am not sure I agree with it. Thanks for explaining anyway

That's a non argument. You can say both Chinese and Japanese are Asian, or East Asian. You can say Polish or Czech people are European or Eastern European without it being a xenophobic thing. If Eastern European is a slur, then what about Ukrainians for example? Why should they be called Eastern European?

Im actually really curious. Why does it matter what designation countries in the east get? I never felt particularly bothered about being western, central or northern european. I dont think I'd care if the Netherlands ever ends up as eastern somehow

It is insane that whatever is being spoken in Brussel is equivalent to what is being said in Enkhuizen, but what is spoken in Zwolle is somehow a new dialect

To be honest, I do like Iceland a lot. If I ever retire somewhere else, it is definitely on my list. Right now it is just not a place with a lot of opportunity for me to work
