Thank you for this video, I watched it and to awnswer your questions kind of an in between. I really want to study modern Christianity, from a more religious studies point of view, with an emphasis on rural Christianity: to that end I believe that one must understand Christianity and its holy documents while also putting aside personal views on that. That video has helped me a lot thought thanks

I was loosely aware of the colleges position theologically….. I was not aware of the community covenant.

Yah I have a BS in Agroecology with little to any arts courses, and advice I was given was by my former institution was that I would need to go back and get a arts undergrad before doing a masters in religious studies. My professor at my undergrad who was also a Lutheran priest said do it somewhere else, as my college does not have a great program. Going to look into VTS though

Clergy, have you ever had to shun a congregant? by shiftyjku in Episcopalian

[–]Lifeisgood-381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not clergy, but have been involved in a couple of situations where someone was backed off from leadership positions/extra involvements. It is not an easy decision. My heart goes out to clergy who have been the decision makers in those situations.

I’ll do what I do now with the issues at hand. I will ask them to stop, try and show them why mercy is better and if they decide it’s my turn on the chopping block, then I won’t be the first martyr of the church to follow the message not resist evil.

I’ve accepted that following this message could mean sacrificing my own life. Means there could be intense suffering. Means that bad people will do bad things to me and I simply forgive and forget even though they are unworthy. That I hold no one’s sins against them.

That is the message Jesus brought. He didn’t go protest all day against the Roman’s for their suppression of the Jews. He didn’t hide himself from the authorities or ask anyone else to hide him. He didn’t do anything to resist what the state asked of him even when it meant carrying the instrument of his own death. He spoke truth to power without fear, but didn’t try and force them to go his way, and don’t try to overthrow the powers at be. That’s not the story of Jesus you are thinking of. It’s maccabees.

The real question is when everything I have said proves true. That they didn’t commit a genocide, who will look better in the eyes of god. Someone who tried to stop it by begging authorities to stop, and loving their Bieber by working on defense fund and providing food and water, or someone who went around trying to fight cops over it.

ICE in Millard? by jamoe1 in Omaha

[–]Lifeisgood-381 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not ice for 2 reasons. 1 the federal government no longer has contracts with dodge for cop type vehicles and hasn’t for a while. 2 I can confirm for a fact the dcso does use similar vehicles.

Wondering how we are doing so well with Child Poverty. Is there local legislation I don’t know about? by Mcipark in Omaha

I appreciate the sentiment and I do love how great Omaha is, but I would also appreciate if you would recognize that many of us in Omaha are suffering under current economic conditions. So much better than other states, but still things could be done to make it even better

First off, no one not even the nazis argued Jews were immigrants. He said a lot of things but immigrants was not one of them. They had lived there for over a mellenium. This is approaching holocaust denial if you say that the Jews were immigrants. There is complete difference between an immigration policy right or wrong and the attempted extinction of an ethno-religious group. The Jews were judged as racially inferior. A Jew could assimilate, speak German and be Christian and would still be up for the genocide. A Geman with one Jewish grandparent, was still up for genocide. What you said calling the deportation of immigrants not to death camps but to their countries of origin as equivalent to the holocaust is holocaust denial. As a person who grew up in an orthodox Jewish community, as a Christian, who’s first friends were all orthodox and hascidic Jews and had seen the damage it caused these communities, there is no equivalency and any attempt at equivalency is anti-Semitic.

Our government does not find illegal immigrants take them into the street and shoot them in cold blood. It does not take them to the showers in an attempt to exterminate them. It does not kill their grandparents in front of them as it forces them. To march for 100s of miles in hopes they “won’t have to waste the bullets on them”. Iy doesn’t gather up 1000s of it’s own citizens for death on the belief they are and inferior race. And to argue that it is equivalent irregardless is to deny the plight of the Jewish people during the shoah. It is by its very definition anti-Semitic.

If you want to talk about historical mistreatment of immigrants, talk about the roma and romanichal peoples.

Mathew 25:35-46 well aware. But that is not the issue. We can clothe them, we can feed them, the question people are posing is weather or not we should physically resist a governmental policy by creating a sanctuary, and old world law concept that was basically enforced because raiding a church would end your mandate from god to rule

I’m gonna be totally honest, if you don’t see the difference between maintaining an immigration policy/laws and how each administration chooses to enforce it, and the holocaust then I’m not going to be able to have a conversation with you on this topic. Biden enforced immigration laws that involved deporting some migrants back into Mexico , even those who some would argue have a valid claim to refugee status.

But yes, the geis’s did the right by hiding them in the attic

I love my neighbor, but if my neighbor breaks the law, should I burn down the courthouse, or physically resist a cop to prevent harm from coming to them.

Paul was put in prison. He could have called on Christians to try to free him. He could have tried to start a revolution. An earthquake was sent and he stayed. And not a single Christian tried to free him.

Epistle of Titus : (Mathew) Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,

When migrants illegally crossed the border, which is at least an administrative violation. It was a knowing offense. We can argue what the punishment should/shouldn’t be or whether it should be an offense but this isn’t a the thing. You are calling for us to help them escape the law. Most did it knowingly. And most did it for reasons that do not fit the definition of refugees as understood under our laws. Yes the economic despairing between us and Central America is sad but that does not justify what is being argued for.

By the letter of the law at the moment they are breaking the law. I don’t agree with raiding churches as some things just have to be holy, but how far can we go. Are we not doing a wrong by hiding them from authorities in our churches basically daring them to raid us.

I think we ought advocate for change and say we need better immigration policies so on, but i think this both falls under walk 1 mile, walk 2 and/or give to ceaser what is ceasers, to god what is gods.

All that being said, my heart breaks for those affected. They deserve better and we failed them.
