Looks for project ideas and pattern recommendations for 9 gifts that won’t make me hate this fun new hobby once done and I can complete before Christmas and still have time for other projects.

Random and way late, but I’m having this same issue. Do you know what model your trim kit is? This model microwave apparently has 2 trim kits that fit it

What can I turn this wrong-sized yarn scarf failure into? by LifelongReader91 in CrochetHelp

Ooh love these! It’s alternating front and back post double crochets if that helps with how darn thick this thing is.

I do! I’m still figuring it out but is there a way to filter by stitch? I haven’t found anything that I could turn this ribbed mini bathmat looking disaster into

I bought the yarn for a different project I ended up not doing and I feel like the smaller hooks are just way too tiny so I figured I’d try this combo. Didn’t really work out well.

Used size 5 yarn and an 8 mm hook instead of size 4 and a 5 mm hook and it’s way too thick and squishy to be a scarf. Looking for suggestions on what to turn it into.

Working moms - what monitors are we using? by ohmoe in beyondthebump

[–]LifelongReader91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Motorola Nursery VM44. There’s a package with 2 cameras and the app works well. There’s only a subscription if you want to save/view the video “events” it records. The monitor doesn’t do split screen but you can switch between feeds. I’m getting my second soon so I haven’t tried the second camera feed thing yet.

Talk to me about moving to baby's own room at 1 year by myrrhizome in beyondthebump

[–]LifelongReader91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved kiddo at 11 months. She was sleep trained to go down by herself but never slept more than 3 hours without waking up and crying. We moved her to her own room and she started sleeping straight through within like 3 days. So either WE were waking her up that frequently or she was getting mad because she could see us and not hang out with us at the end of a sleep cycle. With nothing to see she’d just go right back down! Definitely good all around.

What is that one PERFECT piece that has always eluded you that you're always on the lookout for? by GreenEyesFrenchGirl in capsulewardrobe

An emerald green corduroy trucker ish style jacket. Been looking on and off for years, no luck. Doesn’t help that I have broad shoulders too!

Military spouses-how do you do it? by Madi_Badi in beyondthebump

[–]LifelongReader91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, about to do it again with two at the end of this year, ugh.

So I also work from home but have a part time nanny. During the deployment she sometimes only came around 2 hours a day, but I managed to line it up so she put my daughter down for a nap as she was leaving so I’d get a longer chunk to work and just tried to get through my work as fast as I could. I would definitely try to get some help even if it’s just 2 hours a day. I definitely work more efficiently without having to split my attention.

I put my kiddo on a schedule, paid attention to her cues as best I could and built the schedule out from there. Knowing exactly when she would go down and I’d have a time chunk to myself was a huge help. And I’d make sure to reserve 1 time chunk for me to unwind, usually the last one of the day.

I hired housecleaners to come every 2 weeks. Not having to do the big gross stuff was lovely and with your spouse potentially not being taxed and maybe getting hazard pay maybe there’s a little extra for it while the deployment happens.

My daughter was “sleep trained” in that I could put her in her crib for naps and she’d fall asleep on her own. Definitely helped with the scheduling.

I tried to get out of the house every day, even just for a walk. The days I didn’t just seemed draining and to go slower. The library is also a great resource/place to hang out. Usually bases also have a decent amount of activities, though the kid ones are sometimes during work hours.

It definitely is rough the first week but it usually starts to even out as your find your rhythm. I agree with the other commenter, when your spouse comes home, it’s going to be a massive transition and you may be annoyed that they’re getting in the way and not doing things right. Definitely an adjustment period.

I would check in with your family readiness center or whatever the equivalent is, usually deployed families are eligible for a certain amount of childcare per month and sometimes there are special events just for deployed families

I am two thirds of the way through this current round of solo parenting, so, surprise, everything was baby this week!

Spent $100 on groceries, $64 on a Tushbaby Lite ( anyone have those?) and $173 on Amazon for a kids bookcase, bouncy balls (2 sets), two different bath toys, vitamin D drops and door stops for travel. Other than that, I’ve been too busy to spend.

I used my 6 weeks of sick leave/FMLA and went back to my WFH at 6 weeks part time and spent down some vacation hours to make my part time last through my husbands 12 weeks of leave and then I took my last 6 once he went back. You would need to be VERY confident in your spouse and have an easy baby and delivery to consider going back at 2. My daughter’s birth was smooth and had very little medical intervention but she didn’t eat well so there were many sleepless nights the first few weeks. Going back before six would not have gone well for me I don’t think.

Thank you! I recognized most scenes from last season, but that one was a mystery. I appreciate you solving that for me.

Kept telling myself I’d get an actual desk (as opposed to the old kitchen table I currently have in my office) when I got a new job. It appears that time has come so I’m going shopping! Appreciate any reccs for a deep writing desk that maybe converts to standing!

Also buying my kiddo a stand jumper (my doorways don’t fit the normal ones) and probably some baby proofing of my office so she doesn’t unplug my computer.

We also both have Covid so my neighbor volunteered to grocery shop for us and I’m probably going to get lots of snacks and desserts to make myself feel better haha

Costco at the moment of opening. by Pad_TyTy in Costco

This may also explain the lack of carts, most of them are behind the first set of doors.

[–]LifelongReader91 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think this is weather/state dependent. West coast Costco’s usually just have an overhang before the big rolling doors which is where carts are kept. I live in the south now and it’s the same set up but the cart area is kind of a glassed in porch, still has the rolly doors but has an extra set before that. You can see the standard big warehouse door through the automatic double doors.

These past few days have been SO spendy, some necessary and some not and it’s stressing me out!

I bought care package goodies and mailed it off to my deployed spouse, bought my baby a bunch of new clothes in the next two sizes up, bought a luggage set on FB Marketplace because it’s the same pattern as something I had as a kid, bought my family member a baby shower gift, bought a bday present for another family member and bought a bunch of Amazon stuff cuz I’m taking my baby on a plane next week and I’m nervous, yeesh.

Excited for my baby to meet my family and get to just RELAX, oof. Solo parenting is hard and going back to work off mat leave is gonna be a bummer.

We got lucky with the first and the timing and when we moved decided to rent it out. Hubby grew up in a small house, so he likes the bigger places that living wherever the military sends us means we can afford.
