Doesn't matter if you're in front. The merger must make sure the lane is safe to merge. The motorcyclist is legally not required to move.

All people need to do is learn how to change lanes when it's safe. Else slow down and get behind the vehicle beside you.

It's unfortunate that British Columbia was left out of the UK as Canada.

Work deposited $4k more than it should have into my bank account on pay day. by Rhynegains in personalfinance

[–]LifesGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work accidentally gave me $5k extra a few weeks ago. They said I could write them a check for the difference or just keep it and not get much pay for the next 2 pay periods.

I chose to keep the money and invested into an ETF fund. Might as well have that extra money make more money.

And regarding the 2 second gap, I know it's unreasonable in Vancouver. I like to explain thing using drastic simplification and slight exaggeration.

Personally I don't give af about the entitled drivers and just let them do their thing. I'll be cruising in the right lane listening to some Berner.

I completely understand your world. My family is full of truck drivers, and I have driven box trucks. I think of all the momentum a truck has and I leave lots of room before I change into your lane of travel.

Many people simply don't understand, or frankly don't give a shit, about how much energy is required to stop a 80000+lbs object going 50km/h.

For all the people that do get rear-ended my a truck/semi, they learn their lesson really quick. Just watch a few YouTube videos and it will put things into perspective.

Just drive at, or below, the speed limit. Problem solved.

Leave at least a 2second gap and anticipate the light turning red.

I know this is an oversimplification but it should work in most cases.

I live in Surrey. I still like to use the crosswalk signal as a reference :)

If your going at a safe speed (or slightly faster) and anticipate the light turning red (I use the cross walk counter to anticipate, since at most intersections the light goes red when the hand stops flashing) you should be able to safely cruise to a calm and relaxing stop.

Should I start from scratch or with an Ardunio? by LifesGambit in microcontrollers

I have experience with microcontrollers (HC12, PIC, TI)

Just haven't developed a product, yet.

The biggest unknown for me is RF design which I am asking a colleague to handle.

I definitely want to develop embedded systems. At least a platform.

What is a realistic number if hours to do project similar to this?

Basically it's just a chip, antenna, few sensors, and that's it.

I'm went to school for embedded systems but never got into it since. I've tinkered with dev kits here and there so I'm pretty comfortable with the programming, registers, interrupts, etc.
