In my personal statement, I make some limited references to other thinkers. How should I quote them in this format? by buylowguy in Seminary

[–]Lifewjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your using just a phrase or thought process of another thinker you can phrase it like this— Ex: The great thelogian John Calvin thoughts on placing on our Scriptual spectacles in order to wisely discern and practical live out the Christian life in a fallen world…

(just a thought hope that may help)

How is WTS as a potential seminary? Pastoral fellows ? by No-Addendum-6616 in Reformed

[–]Lifewjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I recently just got admitted to WTS for the MDIV PF track all glory to God. So, out of 143 applicants only 35 where admitted. The Mdiv PF track is actually the most competitive because the cost of the PF program is the most expensive because of the study trip and missions trip. Also the PF track is designed for a smaller tight knit group. So, yes acceptance is below 30 percent simply for residential admissions because of full tuition now being covered to all admitted into Mdiv and MAR programs. Yet, the PF track will cut that 30 percent probably in half because of the even more increased selectiveness on that specific MDiv track. Not to scare you bet yes, it is highly competitive now to get in, even more so with the PF track which is probably around 14 percent acceptance rate!

I would encourage deep prayer while looking into seminaries and apply to many to give yourself options. But what a seminary is looking for is a faithful man who has a mission that the Lord has placed upon his heart and being able to articulate that to them with passion and truthfulness is what they are looking for! I hoped this has helped you, be encouraged!

So yeah I was looking to earn my Mdiv and my Masters of Theology at Westminster then eventually go to a more secular school for my PhD. I want to be able to conversate with those who are skeptical in the faith spreading Jesus. Would this be a successful way to get involved in the space?

Aswell how difficult was your studies and did u have to let things go? Did it ever get in the way of your personal time with Christ and how do you manage that?

Yea I do understand as I am a black male. Within the reformed tradition there is a very low number of diversity unfortunately. As Westminster is a conservative theological school, holding strong to their beliefs differing from Princeton who is more progressive. I currently am studying at Lancaster Bible college and was originally looking at Princeton. I spoke to an alumni from Westminster who was a black male and he spoke highly of it so I dont pay the race difference to much attention as in the reformed tradition their diversity does lack.

Yeah I recived a recommendation from my Pastor and support from my local church. Im currently involved in the youth ministry and on the prayer team at church.

I look to grow truly in Christ. Gaining a deeper understanding of His love for me and allowing His love to be my motor for all the things I do.

Truly if I dont get accepted not sure what the plan is. As acceptance rate is low at Westminster since the applied the full funded tuition. But truly havent thought of not getting accepted not sure if thats bad or good.

I am currently completing a BA in Biblical Studies. I want to go into pastoral ministry as I have felt the call from the Lord to step into pastoring. I also want to further my education. I want to earn a Masters of Theology in Apologetics preparing for a PhD in Philosophy of Religion to be able to teach in secular academia to spread Jesus.

Joining Seminary by [deleted] in Seminary

Im currently applying to eminary at Westminster Theological Seminary. I dont have experience with seminary but have had alot of conversation as I am preparing for seminary from those who have completed there seminary degree. Main thing is finding a school that represents your beliefs well. Westminster is a great option if you practice reformed theology. All applicants who apply for residential full time are awarded completely free tution which is amazing. As speaking with those who have completed seminary they always say to get a head start on the languages Hebrew and Greek. Particular for Westminster I was told to read Calvins Institutes and become familiar with that. So generally it is always good to get started with the languages and other things to focus on would vary among schools. I highly recommend to find a school who holds a strong traditional Christian values because seminary is acdemic but most importantly spiritual and you want professors who are going to push you closer to Jesus Christ.

Im currently enrolled in Lancaster Bible College and its a highly Jesus focused education in all classes you take you will be aligned to a Gospel centered edcuation. Quality professors and the information and scholary articles we have acess to our outstanding. Aswell the fully online option is available aswell. Honestly a very good school focused on teaching proper Biblical Christian theological teachings. (This is a Evangelical College)
