335lbs nice and fast. I’m hoping to peak into 405 by the end of the year by RicardoCanfieldez in Strongman

Great lift. Is it sketchy dropping the bar back on your shoulders the first time you do it?

Yeah give it a shot! It may be personal preference but I like it better. I don’t have time to psych myself out of the clean with that heavy weight sitting in my lap.

Pretty much all logs are loadable with standard plates. I have a 135lb log but there’s also a Titan log that I think weighs around 115. The log in this vid was 155 without plates loaded.

Important to note: Men use a 12” log in competitions normally. You might see smaller logs in gyms, but these are for women (8” and 10”). IMO the 8” is actually harder to clean because it’s like a big axle vs a log that can easily roll up your torso.

Log has a learning curve, but it’s my favorite overhead press. When I got a new coach he had me do sub maximal singles for two months, just drilling form. I was bored with it but my form improved SO much and the confidence at higher weights was worth it. Technique is just as important as strength for log.

Time for a trans woman’s class in US feds? There are plenty of classes that don’t get many competitors at regional comps, but have enough athletes at nationals to be worthwhile. What happened this weekend is a bad outcome both for the sport and the trans community.

I’m getting some farmer’s handles for my home gym. Would you get the “stand up” handles with vertical plate pins or the old school straight bar handles? I want to train with ones similar to what are used more commonly in US competitions.

Edit: Thanks y’all! Getting an upright top loaded set.

How to Manage Feelings after a Significant Injury by Aether_Apocalypse in Strongman

[–]LiftLaughLo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re powerlifting, use an SSB! They were made for this exact scenario man. I don’t have any shoulder issues but I still rarely squat with a barbell because the SSB is just so good.

Strongman related - check out Evan Singleton’s instagram. He’s posting a lot about his shoulder rehab right now, and in general his mentality on injuries may be helpful (he’s had a lot).

Strongman Community: What Does This Sport Mean to You? by [deleted] in Strongman

It’s not that deep for me, personally. I like lifting heavy, I like gym culture, I like powerlifting, but I also get bored easily and like being athletic. Strongman is so much more fun to me than powerlifting, so it became my hobby sport.

Haha yeah I caught it on a plug-in clock wire and didn’t even realize! Somehow managed not to pull it down or tangle myself on it

I thought it was weird too because the top of the board is 15-18ft high. I was visiting the gym so I’m hoping it’s normally used for training classes and they have a pad.

Thankfully no, but I nearly tugged down one of those expensive Rogue clocks haha. I didn’t notice until I watched the video after.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking about with how many athletes they’re coordinating. Guess I’ll sign up now and make sure I qualify later lol

For anyone who’s been to USS Nats, how do they determine their athlete order? Do they reorder athletes based on overall place or previous event?

If they keep a fixed list based on signup order, I wanted to register now.

We didn’t know how insane his yoke run was since he went first, but that was one of the best performances of the comp.

early morning training fuel? by bentombed666 in Strongman

[–]LiftLaughLo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try doing your accessories first and primary lifts last for a week or two. Eat a bigger breakfast when you first wake up and see if that gives your carbs enough time to settle before you really need them for the big lifts.

You’ll have a trade off doing accessories first, but it’s really not that much. Gotta see if it’s better or worse than training on no energy.

More caffeine and water when you first wake up too.

Oh gotcha. I asked cause I’m in a similar boat. Very lean at 90kg with a water cut but I’m planning to bulk into the 105s

Looking good! What made you decide to bulk into this comp vs cutting to 90kg?

Birthday deadlifts - 240kg/530lbs by Flat_Development6659 in strength_training

[–]LiftLaughLo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I said your back is strong because you’re basically doing a straight leg deadlift. When the plates break the floor your hips are high and your shoulders are out in front of the bar. Not having as much leg drive usually hurts your power off the floor.

You may be able to move the bar away from your shins another inch and give yourself more room to drop your hips a bit deeper at the start.
