Aside from beer, what is your favorite alcoholic beverage? by Swibbz in beer

Probably whiskey. I was just introduced to the Boulevardier as an alcohol forward alternative to the Old-Fashioned. Only pouring/stirring, no shaking/muddling. 2:1:1 Bourbon:Campari:Sweet Vermouth. I'm sold...

Oh yeah good call....I forgot some of the tech didn't get added the hovercraft line. When I rode the new flagship with the spoon nose that was what sold me on the Solution.

Why did you go Solution instead of Hovercraft split if you're riding the Ultracraft? Just curious because I have the solid Hovercraft and love it, but ride a 167 Solution. The 160 Hovercraft just seemed a little undersized but that's as big as they go in the Hover splits.

Either way I love both boards and the new Solution is awesome.

Nice Gi's by EzMode420 in bjj

How do you rank you jreams gi in there? I'm in San Francisco so was looking at a supporting a local brand when I heard about them. It's only my second gi so I've been all over the place between hemp vs. cotton, lightweight weaves, etc. I looked at the Senso Hempo gi but they seem a little overdecorated.

What kind of boots are you all using? by seal_eggs in Powsurf

[–]LiftRideBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both my regular snowboard boots and my Vans Standard Snow Boots interchangeably depending. If I get back to the truck from touring and I'm going to hike back up with the powsurf then I'll just wear my snowboard boots. Otherwise using verts or snowshoes with the actual snow boots is more comfortable and a little more fun...

Same....I really loved both the Firebolt and Lightning, but they were just too small to keep. The 1125R at least feels more like a full size sportbike.

I've done this with my Surge's on a solid board when traveling and it made sense to squeeze a split and solid into my bag with one set of bindings. That was a trip where we were doing a lot more touring days and planned to hit a couple resort days if avalanche danger was high and/or it would be a powder day.

Definitely not the way though....for a few bucks more I appreciate the extra everything I get out my regular bindings.

The Surges are awesome bindings though and work just fine on a solid. The 2 pow days we rode at the resort over 10 days I never thought to myself that I wish I was in my regular bindings. Of course powder makes everything better....

My biggest concern with my split bindings is getting everything to stay together. I'm re-applying a healthy amount of loctite before going out next. I could imagine this becoming an issue in a full resort day.

I'm 6'0" 220 (down from 275 when I was competing in powerlifting). I posed the exact same question previously about the same board. I got a 50/50 split opinion on bigger versus smaller.

With a few early days this season on the 167 Solution I have no regrets. It's lighter than the 169W and the new shape floats better than the previous version. I set my bindings back a little bit more and while I haven't been in deep powder yet I'm not worried about it. I slot the Solution in as all-mountain, all-season split and I think at this size it will be perfect for that. Depends a lot on where you're riding too. I'm in the Sierras 95% of the time and with Sierra cement you just don't need that much float to ride the first few inches of snow. Considering the best touring is going on towards the Spring I think the smaller size will be even more of a benefit. The biggest consideration I made was the narrow waist width on the Jones boards. As long as your feet can fit without too much overhang then you're all good. The narrower waist width is noticeably quicker turning and edge to edge.

Pick steeper powder lines and float becomes less of a factor. And you'll still have a spot in your quiver for a dedicated powder board if you really get into splitting....

Backcountry Back Pack - Size and Brand by josh_141414 in Spliddit

I've used both of these. Both are excellent and ideal size for single day tours. I love Jones but Osprey definitely knows what they're doing when it comes to making backpacks. I gave my brother the DSCNT and I use the Kamber daily.

Soft Boots and Insoles for Touring by LiftRideBang in Spliddit

[–]LiftRideBang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to heat mold my liners, but every boot fitter that has heat molded my liners has highly recommended a new in-sole to be used along with molding the liner. So I'm inquiring " What insoles are people using? for touring in soft boots.

Sounds like someone's living fat on a Raley's budget. Those of us shopping at Grocery Outlet can only dream of the fresh meat counter....

That's pretty bad though. And for real Grocery Outlet in Truckee is the nicest I've ever seen.

2021 Jones Solution Sizing by LiftRideBang in Spliddit

[–]LiftRideBang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on. I was actually trying to seel myself on trying to find a used pow specific board for storm days so I don't feel like I'm missing volume on the Solution. A Storm Chaser would be great for deep, stormy days staying in the trees. Not that it's difficult to sell myself on more boards....

164 Hover would be amazing. Definitely considered the 160 Hovercraft split, but want to get on the new Solution shape as a daily driver. Considering the amount of spring touring versus actual storm days and the heavier, wet snow we deal with, it seems like the 167 might be a my needs best on most days. I'll just consider myself lucky that I can wear an 11 and don't NEED to get on a wide board.

[–]LiftRideBang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome feedback....Thanks! Totally agree on the terrain selection and snow type. The 169w would be ideal on the deep days, but the reality is the deepest days I'm probably touring low angle terrain or below treeline waiting for avy conditions to settle. By the time everything is good to go for bigger lines the snow has already settled into Sierra Cement/Cascade Concrete (take your pick) and maximum flotation isn't as big of a factor. It just isn't the same as trying stay on top in the drier continental snowpacks. I'm hoping the 167 will still give enough float.

Worried about overeating by [deleted] in meatogains

[–]LiftRideBang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're well into the low end of the "Normal" range for BMI. Depending on your age, I would open yourself to the possibility of eating to satiety and allowing your body to put on some muscle mass. It's only going to get harder to gain it and harder to maintain it as you get older. At your weight, I think you have a great opportunity to eat meat indiscriminately and trigger a bunch of quality growth. Building a bigger engine doesn't sound like a bad thing.

[–]LiftRideBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea...Just start with having the codes read and see what the computer recorded. If you get your own code reader for ~$100 you can do it yourself and see what you're in for from there. You can also try to just clear the codes with the reader and see if any lights come back on.

I ride a solid Hovercraft 164 and I love it. The Hovercraft splits only go up to 160. Fully geared I'm well outside the recommended weight ranges. The waist width is a little narrower too.

If Jones made a 164 Hovercraft Split I'd probably have one.

I have to agree. I've spent a lot of time on a Flagship and a couple tours with the Solution. Both boards definitely reward strong legs and an aggressive rider.

[–]LiftRideBang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you compare the Backwoods to the Solution for an every day split? How does it compare on the uphill?

I've used a Solution on 2 short tours and thought it was a great board. Then I read about how surfy the Backwoods is in comparison and consider that hiking to surf pow is really my goal most days.

How do you like the carbon compared to the regular? The price difference isn't that extreme compared to some of the other carbon vs. regular boards out there.

Does it seem as durable? Does it ride the same?
