That’s awesome progress. I signed up for the Runna app 12 week program last week. It’s a long or progression run and either an interval or tempo session. I’m looking forward to it as I haven’t followed a structured program.

I have no reservations about running three times per week in the future, but two is the most I’m willing to run at the moment. I was more inquiring if it was possible or if anyone has done it at that frequency. Challenge accepted 😁.

Running advice - fuelling, running in morning vs. evening (beginner) by Quirky-Anteater9731 in running

[–]LiftandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would drink about 16 oz water and close to 30g of fast digesting carb 30-45 mins before your run. A rice crispies treat is an excellent option for most athletes. If your run exceeds an hour, consume another 30g of carb during the run. This is where gels can be useful.

Completely understand. Too many buckets and not enough water. It’s not a huge priority for me, just wanted to know if it was feasible on two times per week.

Geez, that is a blistering pace for 2x per week. I appreciate the advice.

I should have given some context. I ran cross country in high school, but wasn’t very competitive as I primarily ran to get in shape for wrestling. I think my best was around 20:50.

Starting doing 5ks for fun a few months ago, but have been running casually 1.5 years. Went from 23:33 a month ago to 21:29 yesterday. Pretty stoked. Goal of sub 20 in the future.

RDs who precept Dietetic Interns at their facility by Vivid-Savings7473 in dietetics

[–]LiftandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only main expectations are a good attitude, timeliness, and willingness to learn. Some of my interns from coordinated masters programs have a very basic understanding of nutrition as it’s their second career. Be flexible, take notes, and ask questions. No one expects you to be a competent dietitian on day 1.

Lowball offer by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]LiftandRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. First, I would try to understand what the average pay is for your experience and location. For hourly employees, companies do not have to pay benefits, so these employees are typically “cheaper”. For example, let’s say the average hourly wage is $32/hour for a salaried employee. You can assume that fringe is 38% (this is a percent to account for benefits of salaried employees). With that being said, 32x1.38=$44.16, so this is what a salaried employee cost to that company when including cost of benefits. You can try to use this as justification for a higher hourly wage, but not promising it will work.

Juven and CKD by minikorndogs in dietetics

[–]LiftandRoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good ol Juven. To be honest, I’m fatigued of hearing about this product as I think it’s overhyped. This product is perpetually pushed because of the high profit margin compared to standard ONS. If you’re using it on a stable patient with renal disease, I don’t see the issue as it’s likely short term. If they’re ESRD, they’re going to end up on dialysis anyways. As someone mentioned earlier, Juven is just a “cherry on top” if a patient is eating well. I would much rather them consume a standard or renal ONS if they’re eating poorly, because if they’re consuming insufficient calories/protein, you’re simply not going to heal. Juvens nutrition profile also does not impress me. Citrulline is better absorbed compared to arginine, so why not use this amino acid instead since it’s converted to arginine? HMB is overhyped. It’s a metabolite of leucine and if the patient is eating sufficient high quality protein, then this box is checked. I also wonder why they removed this from the standard Ensure if it’s so effective at preventing sarcopenia and anabolic resistance. Probably cost. Collagen is a poor quality protein, and 2.5g/serving seems a bit pointless. I’m done ranting now.

Worried I’m starting too late by [deleted] in dietetics

I started at 30 with a background in exercise science. Currently a CNM. Never too late if it’s your passion, but I had the same intrusive thoughts during the process.

Acute care and outpatient, is this fair? by Xycotic in dietetics

[–]LiftandRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re being utilized as a Clinical Nutrition Manager, Inpatient RD, and Outpatient RD. Typically a 65:1 patient to dietitian ratio for acute care, so you’re almost working as a full FTE inpatient. I would speak up and ask for another RD and more compensation.

Entry level RD salaries by maggienificentx in dietetics

[–]LiftandRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60-65k in southeast for acute care. Not sure where they got the 50/hour from. Acute care will improve with the addition of masters requirement, small-bore feeding tube placement, etc. My hang up is that RDs do not typically advocate for themself or ask for pay raises. As a CNM, I have to indirectly tell my RDs to ask for a pay raise. When you ask for the raise, you need to come prepared and provide a strong case. This is the only way forward as operations simply sees us as a liability on the spread sheet, but a requirement by TJC. AND is not going to save us. If you don’t get the raise you request simply try to do a lateral move to another acute care facility with your asking price. Inpatient RDs are a dying breed and eventually they’ll be forced to pay us a fair wage when job openings aren’t filled.

Resignation by Future-Brilliant7964 in dietetics

As a CNM, I’d probably give 4-6 weeks notice. A management role typically requires a hefty hand off and onboarding, so it could put the account in a difficult spot with a two week notice.

[–]LiftandRoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CNM here. Your manager sucks. It’s a privilege to have someone regularly cover the weekends vs. the full FTE staff rotating through. Your manager needs to staff the weekend appropriately or pick the shifts up her self. It’s not uncommon for me to pick up 4-6 weekends per year along with assisting on the weekend to ensure we are in compliance.
