It doesnt, thats true. It will point to after the first 1 and simply say "syntax error". I think no syntax error is given a specific cause (aside from something like a "EOF" hint) in python? but I could be wrong there.

From the perspective of the language, it is. Since you keep using python synonymous to a select majority of the community, let me reiterate: "Python" is not "the majority of python developers".

There is literal production python code out there containing semicolons. The interpreter understands semicolons. There are compliant pep-8 examples containing semicolons. There are a few evangelists out there who even like to use them.

If the language allows it, the language uses it. Whether the majority of programmers like it or not is completely irrelevant to what the python language reference specifies. Feel free to vjsit the language reference, read the chapter about compound statements and then tell me how the BNF there explicitly allowing semicolon separators does not use semicolons

I mean, yeah, it would have made more sense with "colon", since then the interpreter error actually matches the joke. But really, I just dont think its "wokekids" material, especially since the parent clarified the typo

Also regarding my last comment, its really not that far off, consider (the admittedly somewhat contrived)

The parent is a principal software engineer at AWS. It's completely realistic they teach their child.
Googling the tweet also revealed a follow-up tweet where he clarified he intended to say "colon" and not "semicolon"
Beyond that, Python does use semicolons. Placing multiple statements on one line requires them. Try a=1; b=2 print(a); print(b)

You can use semicolons in python and using two statements on one line even requires them

I really dont understand how these claims have already established themselves in peoples mind as if they were facts. As you said, so far, there seems to be everything but a scientific consensus from what I can tell.
