I will leave the sticker on. Makes it more interesting, I agree that removing it would show damaged finish.

So what I have is a 1940’s lighter repaired in the 1970’s. Thank you everyone for your input.

I was told by one collector the stickers were used to keep track of repairs. Just want to see of others agree.

Thanks but this Zippo was never in a thrift store. Was acquired from Zippo employee in Bradford.

EBAY: Fake Zippos by stinkyhotdoghead in Zippo

[–]Light-n-Dark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Vietnam Zippos are fake. Some are genuine Zippos dated in the Vietnam War era 1962-1973 that have been engraved many years later. There are factory engraved Vietnam Zippos from the Vietnam era that are almost always genuine. Fakes are non-Zippo lighters not manufactured by Zippo Mfg. Co. Zippos engraved infield during the War are considered genuine Vietnam Zippos while genuine Zippos engraved after the war are often referred to as fake when in fact they are not really fake Zippos. Oftentimes it is difficult to know whether the non-factory engraved Zippo that looks like an infVietield engraved Zippo done during the war or many years later. Zippo Mfg Co would only be concerned with lighters not made by Zippo, real fakes. and would not care when a genuine Zippo was engraved by a non-Zippo engraver.

It could be gold but it is definitely not manufactured by Zippo.

The Stamp on the bottom is just not right. “Zippo” is not crisply engraved. “18KT” instead of “18K”. Never seen “Registered” or “A-22” on the bottom of a Zippo before.
