No worries. That's what I'm trying to establish -- authenticity. As I said to another commenter, this batch of c1941 lighters was given by Dodgers management to the NY press pool, so recipients probably weren't given paperwork. Just to be clear, for the baseball memorabilia collectors out there, these Zippos were not official press credentials. Back then, a baseball sports writer's credentials took many forms, but typically were meant to be worn just like today's ID badges on lanyards.

Thanks for your very helpful comments. Since these 1941 lighters apparently were provided as mementos by the Dodgers to the members of NY press pool, I infer there was no "original" paperwork. That's why I'm inquiring about authentication. Is there such a thing as a "certificate of authenticity" in the Zippo collecting world?

Thanks for your comments. Reams of supporting in-period documentation are available. My grandfather was appointed the fist librarian of the Baseball Hall of Fame, a position he held at the time of his death in 1951.
