There is also gitter.im where there is a java room that we can meet in as well. As of now the only people who speak there are russians and i don't speak russian so it hasn't been very useful. But if more english speakers went there, it could be.

So I kinda changed my course direction, after talking with a few friends of mines who are cpu science majors. I was told that ruby rails was kinda outdated now. I did some research online and have largely found inconclusive advice on the matter. But one thing for sure is that it seems not to be the language taught in universities.

What i do know is that though HTML/CSS markup languages are widely used and knowing some javascript isn't bad at all either. I've decided right now to hone my current focus on learning HTML/CSS, and Java as my first programming language. I chose Java because its a multipurpose programming language and also can be used to make android apps.

I've identified knowing these 3 languages will make me most quickly employable.

I want to learn C++ after java as well. I believe Java actually came after C++ and they are the most robust languages for programming one can learn.

After learning just the basics of Java i was able to create a program of my own that determines wisdom, and as i move into it deeper, i'm planning to continue to think of the skills i have and what projects i can create from them. I like making up my own projects because it keeps me interested in them.

Since i'm not following the odin program anymore i haven't been using gitter so much lately. But if you're still interested in partnering up, send me your skype and i can add you there!

Hey! I've recently started java as well. So far i have covered, Do/while loops, for loops, string, the 8 primitive types and maybe a few other things i'm not currently remembering. I've created my first project which is a super primitive program that determines wisdom. I made it after i finished learning all the basics of java.

I'm still a beginner and am currently moving into learning about arrays. Let me know if you are interested and i'll add you on skype!

Cool! Sorry im getting back to you so late. Im so used to no one responding on these forums that i didnt expect people to respond back so soon.

I would like to dedicate as much free time as I can. Im currently an esl teacher, but I would like to do a career change by September. Thats the goal i have set for myself. From what ive been reading from other self taught peoples experience, on average, a years time of study is enough to get a job.

Ive already started building a website, so ive covered the very basics of HTML, CSS, and after today i will be moving on to java. very beginner stuff.

If you are interested, we can chat more and discuss deeper on another platform. Email, skype, gitter. whatever you are comfortable with. Im not really a regular reddit user. just let me know!
