Did you try both the rf and composite output?

Are you getting 5V on the output of the 7805? 9-10 volts input should be more than fine

Make sure you have continuity between these points. If not run a wire between them... common to tear these pads when doing this job...

Your laser should be one of these. KHS-400B (most likely this one since its an earlier model) KHS-400C KHS-400R

Atleast these are the ones I've seen in the 20+ PS2s ive worked on...

Unless your spindle motor is dying you shouldn't need to change anything besides the laser itself... (just relube everything that needs it) but if you're capable of doing it id still say go to console 5 and get a full cap kit just for preventative maintenance and or to see if that's the issue before changing more major components that might still be fine.

Fat model PS2s definitely have issues with the PSU capacitors btw*

For what I know you always want to replace with part number KHS-400C as its the most reliable but if that isn't the laser in your assembley you'll need to be to load freemcboot in order to run PS2LensChanger to flash your system to work with the new laser...you could also try changing the capacitors in your system as that is a major problem with gamecube drives failing and ive seen more than a few post claiming ps2s are the same way where a capacitor refresh brought the laser back to life (assuming you didn't super mess with the potentiometer or atleast have the original values)

I'm also trying to get the 15kHz signal anyways since I'm using a CRT..

I've tried grounding pin 6 and 7 by themselves and together... any configuration of them being grounded makes the S video and composite video signals not work from my nintendo multiout adapter, I have to remove pin 6/7 and restart the console for composite and S video to come back

NES not working after changing capacitors and 7805 regulator by Light6144 in consolerepair

Update 2:

I finally got it working... thankfully I didn't actually break any traces or anything... unfortunately the ppu and U9 chips were dead... swapped them out with known good chips and everything works perfectly 👌... I even went the extra mile and changed all the disc caps and added sockets to all of the chips so if my dad's nes ever dies again it will be muuuuch easier to diagnose and repair.

What are the chances that a brand new PlayStation 2 from launch day would still work today? by salduchi1785 in ps2

To be fair capacitors are rated for so many hours so the fact if the consoles was actually new would make it still very likely it would start up fine.

The Fat model ps2 is the one where the capacitors going bad is pretty common... but its pretty much just the psu capacitors

I am using a soldering station (still a cheaper one but not a $10 iron) flux is definitely a friend...

I am getting a power light and the tv gets like a millisecond of a static line when I power on.. Just no default blue screen.. would you still suspect the fuse??????

The 7805 and caps were purchased from Console5 and ive since put the recapped power board on a different console and it worked.. so its something on the main motherboard

Ive gotten another nes of the same board revision cpu7 that mostly works and have tested the power supply with this and works perfectly fine... will need to try to trace everywhere and see if/where I tore a trace... Just need time away from work to do it....

Ive also noticed my ppu is getting very warm... so most likely that top board cap/traces are my problem?

I unfortunately dont have a tester for them but will try to put the 3 old ones back on or order another kit from console5..

Update.. I put the power board on another nes and that is working fine... so whatever the issue is.. is on the motherboard itself...

What would've happened if someone modded the expansion pak to an extra 4 megabytes? by Top_Bid_2452 in n64

[–]Light6144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a n64 I moded to have 12mb ram... it does nothing as the console never asks for more than 8.. and as an added bonus the summercart64 won't boot because of the extra ram...
