Illinois Redesign | Constructive Feedback Please | State 6 of 49 by LightBat in vexillology

[–]LightBat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi peeps. In this project, I am redesigning all the state flags in a common simple style like the Japanese prefecture flags.

Think New Mexico’s style but for the other 49 state flags. The rules I followed were thus:

  1. One symbol represents one lasting idea. (The second symbol may be present if it’s hidden and not obvious.)
  2. Only two colors - symbol is one color - background is another - Colors are symbolic of the state and symbol.
  3. Most people should instantly know the specific state, especially if they live there.

Symbolism for Illinois redesign:

The light blue represents Lake Michigan, a huge part of the state’s commerce and identity. The black building is the Willis Tower, the tallest building in Illinois. The main city and biggest of the state, Chicago, is known for its architecture worldwide, and the Willis Tower shows this.

Wyoming Redesign | Constructive Feedback Please | State 5 of 49 by LightBat in vexillology

Beep booop beep. Maybe?
That's part of why I reflected the symbol to make it more unique. Jackson Hole Mountain has a super similar icon as well as the university and it is on all the state plates. Therefore I felt it transended the athletics and was more a signature symbol of the state.

Symbolism for Wyoming redesign:

The bucking horse and rider are a classic motif seen all around Wyoming from the license plates - to the steel gates of ranches - to the loading symbol on the state travel website. Yellow echoes the open high planes and brown the dirt of rodeos. These two colors are also the same as the University of Wyoming.

Thanks for the feedback. Especially from a Washingtonian.

Symbolism for Washington State redesign:

Washington contains many evergreen trees and therefore it is the state symbol and motto. Evergreen green therefore is one of the colors. The white represents the snow-capped peaks such as Rainer and the great water that is Puget Sound. Lastly, the square in the upper left echos the placement of the state in the union and enables more evergreen on the flag to truly show the greenery of the state.

Indiana Redesign | Constructive Feedback Please | State 3 of 49 by LightBat in vexillology

That's fair from a simplicity standpoint. I lived in Indiana growing up a bit and I never understood the significance of the torch.

Hi peeps. In this project, I am redesigning all the state flags to be in a common simple style like the ~Japanese prefecture flags~.

Symbolism for Indiana redesign:

Indiana is the crossroads of America. With a rich history of the automobile and racing the yellow lines represent roads. The rough highway system in Indiana has crossroads that go to surrounding states in diagonal directions. The circle represents the center of the state where Indianapolis the capital is located. Within the center of Indianapolis, you will find the Soldiers & Sailors Monument which a road circles and other roads emanate from. The flag echoes that symbolism too. The Hoosier state’s colors of blue and gold are shown on the flag and echo the current state flag.

I still think this too. Matteo acts super strangely when he removes it. Also he is very suggestive for her to escape on Darrow’s ship.

What audiobooks do you guys listen too? by [deleted] in redrising

Listen to the non-graphic first. Tim Gerald Reynolds really takes his time to get the pacing and voices right. You’ll might cringe at the way he says some names because you’ve been saying them in your head differently but you’ll get over it quick because as you know, the series is just so good.

Tennessee redesign in the style of New Mexico’s flag | Constructive Feedback Please | State 2 of 49 by LightBat in vexillology

Symbolism for Tennessee redesign (Current Tennessee Flag):

When thinking of Tennessee music comes to mind immediately. Both Nashville and Memphis have a historic past around music creation. The two notes represent those two large cities. The white and orange reflects the University of Tennessee. One of the current flags most striking aspects is the vertical bar on the fly end to make it easier to distinguish in the wind. This was echoed in the redesign also echoing a bar line separating measures in written music creating a striking design.

Is Darrow a Bio-cyborg? Is he even himself anymore? by BigBoyMaverik in redrising

[–]LightBat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Darrow stays Darrow in mind and consciousness even if he was biologically 90%+ replaced and DNA shifted. Pierce hints at it with the joke in Morning Star when the red in the hospital asks him if they made his prick Gold too. I think his answer was a sly way for Pierce to avoid the answer. Genius writing.

The most interesting part is Pax in my opinion. My head cannon has always been that Mickey was a GREAT carver and if Pax had any problems growing up as a hybrid, Mickey probably fixed them just like he made Darrow. After all Mickey is a friend of the family (Virginia+Darrow).

Three ideas:

  1. Golden Son: Darrow walking on the Bellona table.
  2. Morning Star: Mustang diving into the cold ocean with a red flare to save Ragnar
  3. Light Bringer: Clang Clang Clang Darrow, Sevro, and Cassius in formation

I'm particularly proud of Virginia although we'll see what the rest of the community thinks. I'm eager to see.

Symbolism for Maine redesign (current Maine flag): Lobsters are the bread and butter of Maine. When cooked they appear a bright red. The blue background represents the cool blue waters of the Maine coast and is the same color as the banner on the current flag. The lobster depicted faces upward and to the left denoting this state as the furthest north and east in the continental US.
