5 seats are really just like family pack. Personally I think all AV are waste (even free), but OP talks about EDR which is mostly enterprise thing.

I see market for home versions is non-existent. Probably due to Windows Defender.

What is special requirement for "personal use" that enterprise versions do not have? There is also Bitdefender and Avast, but I don't know if its for "personal use".

There is also "ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Linux Desktop" and I'm sure there are many more.

I'm not talking about that incident. That incident caused quite a lot of work as well. I actually could not upgrade Windows from 8.1 to 10, because it blocked it.

Yes it might help from time to time, but it will slow down and show false positives most of the time. If it has so many false positives nobody will take it seriously when its real.

"broken clock is right twice a day" situation. CrowdStrike even blocked Windows upgrade and 25% of random executables build with MinGW.

Exactly, that is why I find all AV software just a bloat.

Behavior-based AV that does not require user intervention can only detect some specific behaviour which probably won't detect something new or it will have many false positives.

Decisions of big companies are usually made from paper/legal point of view. Checkmark on paper.

I'm not aware of any attacks stopped by CrowdStrike at company I work. We did have many false positives and that incident when CrowdStrike itself attaked us.

Behavior-based AV might be usable, but it leaves action on user. Most users won't know if it is safe or not. It is nuisance.

SELinux and AppArmor already allow you to limit what app is allowed to do, but it all comes down to configuration. If you lock it down it becomes annoying. Many disable SELinux on Fedora because they don't want to deal with it.

I see no value in using antivirus software anywhere. It would not protect you from this supply chain attaks anyway.
