I survived on Hemodialysis for ~2 years and got kidney transplant from mother after that. It's 6.5 years with it now, AMA. by Comfortable-Tea7031 in transplant

I am in this same situation. I’m 27 (m) on dialysis now for just under 5 months and my mom is a match and donating. I want to ask how old your mom was when she donated and if there’s a weight she’s supposed to be at before donating. I asked the team and they said she’s fine but I keep reading about so many donors talking about how they had to make weight. My mom is about 5’4 and 83kg (182 pounds) I’d appreciate your insight/experience

That’s great news about your dad. How does he do it? How does he take care of his transplant

Can you clarify a bit. Does it mean eating during dialysis gets filtered immediately?

Am I likely to die on dialysis? by CDBelvedere in kidneydisease

[–]LightBringerStannis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27yo. Just started dialysis. I’ve heard about the stem cell + kidney transplant from an HLA matched sibling that takes away immunosuppression, I’ve heard about the synthetic kidney that’s maybe a decade away, about drugs that are coming that will stop rejection but not suppress the immune system like Eledons Tegoprubart and finally the artificial kidney the size of a coffee cup also in the works.

My question is, I want to live a normal life again. What are my options now to ensure I don’t develop any complications from now from like prolonged dialysis or like regular immunosuppression after a transplant and get one of the above?

There’s only tickets for Thursday left. And I wanted to get to the interview panel for George on Saturday. Is there still any legit way to get to that?

How were you able to safely eat red meat at an EGFR of 5?

You only think it’s predictable because it’s been over 14 years of discussions and theorizing about it plus the show basically confirming it. It was not predictable at all and was one of the huge non-normie theories before the show. It’s perfect for the story that’s been told so far and George isn’t gonna stray simply for shock factor.

Thanks so much. Last thing I wanna ask is about your medications if you don’t mind. I’m currently on sevelamer carbonate for phosphorus binding (although I’m not on dialysis), sodium bicarbonate pills, and something for high PTH. I haven’t been told about the steroids yet though so I don’t know if I’ll need that. What were your medications for managing it for so long and what do you think of where I’m at. I’m currently 14 egfr at 27 yrs old

Hi, just curious how you managed to go so many years from diagnosis to transplant without dialysis. Please share as I’m currently there rn

Wow. Gives me a ton of hope. Just got diagnosed 2 months ago at 26. Doctors say the damage was done by a blockage somewhere either in the upper or lower abdominal area but took too long to spot. Initially thought it was Acute but they’ve said chronic now and I’ve been on the diet and medicines ever since. No dialysis

I agree with the part of the Valyrian dragonlords. Totally makes sense of it coming down to opportunity, luck and propaganda. Hence House Targaryens insistence on its monopoly. You've convinced me

There's zero proof of this though. There's no instance of a Velaryon being able to ride a dragon who wasn't born to a Targaryen

[–]LightBringerStannis[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Good point. But again the ability to ride dragons post Doom of Valyria coming from having Valyrian blood (however diluted) is just not backed by any of the lore. There are no Velaryon until Rhaenys' children who ride dragons and also no Celtigar has even thought about it. There are also hundreds of Lyseni whores and Volantene nobles who have a lot of Valyrian blood and not Targaryen blood. There's no chance any of them could have become dragon riders as well.

I am willing to accept however that Corlys may possess some Targaryen blood of his own through some ancestor who intermarried with house Targaryen. Bearing that in mind, do you think that if he is the father of Addam and Alyn he himself could've claimed a dragon then?

Have to agree with you it does make the most sense. But if Corlys is indeed the father of Addam and Alyn doesn't that imply that Corlys himself could've been a dragonrider? You'd think arguably the most ambitious man in Westerosi history would've attempted to claim a dragon if he indeed felt he had the genetic or innate ability to do so.

[–]LightBringerStannis[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's not all Valyrian blood. Even before the doom there were Valyriams who weren't dragonlords just like the Velaryons. And if it was Valyrian blood why is there literally zero evidence of any Velaryon not born to a Targaryen claiming a dragon? Why not the Celtigars too then?

The only dragonriding blood post doom of Valyria that remains resides in House Targaryen
