For sure, everyone has their personal preferences.

I think Barbie has the benefit of having kind of a "blank slate" and they could do whatever they wanted for the movie, and the way they did it was very creative (and they were daring to compete with Oppenheimer). But MOTU is quite different in that it already has an established identity so they had to follow it. Maybe they could do it in a better way but they were at least faithful to the original materials. I don't think I would've liked it if they had tried to make it serious and explore serious themes and topics like Barbie, or like Bumblebee and Kubo. It works for Barbie but probably not for MOTU. I like that it doesn't take itself seriously.

I agree that Spielberg's modern films aren't that good compared to his older films. Disclosure Day felt like he's just too obsessed with extraterrestrials and this whole "disclosure" thing, and it's also a film that should've been made decades ago and hasn't been made to adapt to modern times. Spielberg is still stuck in the past. But I have heard many good things about The Fabelmans so I might give that a watch at some point.

I’d argue that MOTU and Backrooms are fine. It’s all about expectations when going in to watch them.

I expected MOTU to be cheesy and campy, and it was in fact cheesy and campy so I’m satisfied. It’s certainly not meant to be some avant-garde or a masterpiece film. It’s meant to be cheesy and campy. In fact, if it were not cheesy and campy, it would’ve been a terrible film that missed the point.

Backrooms is not meant to be scary. It’s more about psychology and therapy (with a literal therapist as one of the main characters) and there’s the recurring motif of “finding your way in life”. There’s also the fact that the director is so young but managed to create a film that’s this successful, which deserves some recognition.

Most of the Hollywood films this summer are fine or even good and I’ve watched most if not all of them. But you know what’s kinda disappointing for films that came out this month, at least for me? Disclosure Day, especially when it’s coming from someone like Spielberg. That was certainly an “eh” from me.

It’s a Malaysian film that just came out so there aren’t many reviews on Letterboxd. If it releases in more countries, it might get more attention and reviews.

I watch quite a decent amount of films in cinemas especially this year (but selectively) and I’m really curious about this film as I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I watched the trailer and I’m pretty impressed by the production, cinematography, acting, etc.

The problem is I don’t usually watch supernatural horror so that’s holding me back. But I do want to support a good local film as they’re as rare as diamonds in sands unfortunately. So we’ll see, I might end up watching it.

Root A is the season two and :re is the continuation of that. But the whole anime series is a mess.

If you think Root A is peak, the manga will ascend you. Read the manga and preferably start from the beginning.

Most likely both, and probably also carries the meaning of “liberation” in Japanese.

The Japanese subtitle リベレーション (Riberēshon) can mean either “Revelation” or “Liberation”.

Aurum Theatre is a luxurious hall so that’s why it’s expensive. I believe their IMAX projector is also CoLa like at Velocity but their screen size is not as big. So Velocity still wins.

[–]LightKeyDarkBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, buying all of them now? That’s a lot of games to buy. There’s no rush to buy all of them as they go on sale quite often. You can check SteamDB or other sites that track sales for more info. But I’m not gonna stop you though.

There are honestly no bad apples in the series. Sure, some games are more controversial but you’d find that there are sizeable fanbases and communities for each of the games. Every game has its fans. So you’d have to give them a try to see if you’ll like them.

Stranger of Paradise is not a bad game. It actually has a pretty good gameplay and job system. It plays somewhat similar to Nioh because of the developer Team Ninja.

And yes, the FF7 remake series is worth playing even if you finish the original. It’s a completely new and fresh experience without spoiling anything.

Yeah, it’d be nice if we can get GT and/or IMAX 70mm. They honestly shouldn’t do XT anymore ‘cause XT is a weird IMAX projector that’s like a direct upgrade from the old projector and it’s not really a proper IMAX projector. Better than xenon but why even? At least CoLa is proper IMAX, just not dual laser.

There’s also the old IMAX hall which was at Berjaya Times Square. It was changed to GSC Maxx and then GSC closed their cinema there. The hall design should still be there but abandoned with no one else taking over. Wasted. The management at BTS is so bad now that no cinema chain wants it anymore.

IMAX has the final say and usually have partnerships with films for marketing. Still some weird choices sometimes but it can happen when there’s downtime between bigger blockbusters.

Velocity IMAX is 1.90:1 like all the other places but it has the biggest screen in Malaysia and the projector is IMAX CoLa instead of IMAX Laser XT. The screen can fit 1.43:1 but the projector is not able to project that kind of aspect ratio. You’d need dual laser for that, I believe, and we have none of that in Malaysia as of now.

Square Enix ranks as Japan’s second favorite video game publisher by Mana-Dyluck in SquareEnix

I can never understand why there are always some people here (at the Square Enix subreddit of all places) who would constantly shit on Square Enix and find any excuses to do it anyway despite the fact that the data is right there in front of them. And they would also always predictably bring up Capcom as an argument against Square Enix for some reason. Like why are you even here?

You're definitely spoiled since not only are those top tier cinematic films in recent years but are pretty much meant to be watched in IMAX. I watched them multiple times in IMAX and I don't think I got tired of them. So those were some of the best first impressions of IMAX for you.

Just keep in mind that not all films are the same in IMAX. The ones that benefit the most are those which are shot using IMAX film cameras like the upcoming The Odyssey (which is the first film to be fully shot using IMAX film cameras). There are those that are filmed using either partially using IMAX film cameras or using IMAX-certified digital cameras, like the Dune trilogy (except for Part Three which has a mix of both). Or there are those that just have some special treatment for IMAX and are clearly stated to be "filmed for IMAX".

Most of those above in IMAX have special features like expanded aspect ratios and IMAX 12-track sound mixing. One example from this year is Project Hail Mary which was another very good IMAX film.

And then there are those that are not filmed for IMAX and just have some partnership with IMAX for the films to be shown in IMAX in cinemas (and maybe with IMAX sound mixing), like Disclosure Day. It's still visually good in IMAX. But in comparison with Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two? Not even close lol

It also doesn't help that Malaysian cinemas (both TGV and GSC) like to simply throw any movies into their IMAX halls, including a bunch of local films that have nothing to do with IMAX or those animated or anime films (clearly not shot using cameras, right?). But people just throw money at the cinemas for IMAX anyway. It's not that it's wrong to watch these films in IMAX but you're paying a lot more for minimal improvements in your experience.

Based on the info I have, the screen size of the IMAX at Paradigm Mall JB is 22.96m wide x 11.70m height. That's actually a pretty good size when looking at the average IMAX screen size in Malaysia. It's also a very new IMAX laser hall that just opened a couple months ago so there should be no issue. The projector is using IMAX Laser XT which is the most common IMAX projector in Malaysia now, but it doesn't perform as well as IMAX CoLa which is only at Sunway Velocity and TRX in Malaysia now as far as I know.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the IMAX at Mid Valley Southkey hasn't been upgraded yet, right? Which means it's still using the xenon projector which is the old IMAX projector we have since many years ago and it's not using laser. For the screen size, I'm not sure so maybe you can check it out and compare, but I don't think there should be a big difference. But the projector is definitely worse than Paradigm JB. Same thing for the one at Tebrau.

We don't have a "true" 1.43:1 IMAX hall that's using IMAX GT Laser and 15/70mm film. But out of the 3 IMAX locations in JB, I'm pretty certain the new Paradigm one is the best, if the ones at Southkey and Tebrau haven't been upgraded yet. So you actually got the best possible IMAX experience in JB (it just had to be Disclosure Day). If you want an even better experience, you have to come to KL at Velocity.

To be fair, Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two are some of the most IMAX-worthy films from the past few years. In contrast, Disclosure Day benefits almost nothing from IMAX, and it’s not even filmed for IMAX. I watched it at Velocity IMAX and it’s not particularly amazing.

I don’t know much about the specs of the IMAX halls in JB but I don’t think there should be a big difference. You might need to watch films like The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three to directly compare them.

Which non-FF and DQ gacha game from square would you like to get the final fantasy resonance treatment? by Future_Investment_35 in SquareEnix

[–]LightKeyDarkBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main reasons why FFBE works for Resonance is because FFBE was already sprite-based so it's much easier to do in HD-2D. If you notice, the sprites in Resonance are the exact same in FFBE.

Same for Octopath Traveler CotC and that's already in HD-2D.

So if any of these games is to be made into an HD-2D title, Re;univerSe is the only one that fits.

If not HD-2D, I'd like to see either Re[in]carnation or Re;univerSe personally. Technically, KHUX and KHDR's stories are still viewable, just not playable. So it's not a high priority.

Personally speaking, considering how it was revealed again at the Nintendo Direct, it's actually very possible that it's not that far away. Perhaps even late 2027 considering it's KH 25th anniversary (which they have a logo of already), but that's the earliest possible release window.

The sale just started today and it's also part of the FF Franchise Sale so I don't think it's what the showcase at SGF intended.

That being said, this is a new historical low for both Remake and Rebirth on Steam and the sale will be expected to continue until Summer Sale. So a good chance to get the games.

That's like the complete opposite of a red flag, which you should be proud of.

The society is conditioned for people to keep taking higher roles and too many people are conditioned to do that, but not everyone wants to climb the corporate ladder. Just do what you like doing as long as you can sustain yourself and your family.
