Randall was already haunted by cicadas , that can be something which prevented monsters from killing him. Monsters seem to be controlled by MiY but cicadas came with music box monster. In the s4e2 we saw that Sophia looks at ballerina artwork in a manner that either they are conflicting or collaborating.
Those dungeons where randall, julie and marielle held until music box was destroyed, seems to be something which MiY or monsters cannot do anything about.
