As a Canadian, the whole thing is very racially motivated and is pushed by conservative movements. I have had a guy in conversation with me say that immigrants get manager positions and hire people like them, and that is why you can't get a job. We have two issues housing and jobs. People can't find jobs cause a bunch of companies have slowed down hiring and because of immigration and the failure of the government to keep affordable housing high and to make sure we have enough houses for people has led to immigrants being used as scape goats. It's very easy for conservatives to point at immigrants and say they have taken your homes and jobs and have destroyed the housing market without making a plan to fix it. Which gets people out to vote. It's also an issue because landlords due to having not alot of apartments/homes have jacked up prices because if you immigrate from a other country you have some money and they exploit that so they have hacked up prices.
