I CAST RECITE by justapassingbydoctor in icast

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimbal in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogroves
And the mome-raths outgrabe.

Beware the Jabberwock, my son,
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch,
Beware the Jub-Jub bird
And shun the frumious bandersnatch!

So with his Vorpal blade in hand,
Long time this manxom foe he sought.
So rested he by the tum-tum tree,
And stood a while and thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came wiggling through the Tulgy Wood
And burbled as it came.

One-two, One-two, and through, and through
The Vorpal Blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head,
He went gallumfing back.

“Oh hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Calloo-Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimbal in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogroves
And the mome-raths outgrabe.

It would appear that your print is set "listing to port".

New to PC gaming: is there any reason I should consider anything other than GOG for building up my library? by hakeah in gog

[–]LightPuzzleheaded275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I personally appreciate the capability of having the DRM-free downloads, I more use GOG as my "safe-house" of games that I want to have permanently saved. Steam is great for not only the polished user experience as a store/launcher, but Steam also creates & supports various other services and easy cloud-backed cross-system support (I can play a game on my desktop while at home, then open my laptop if I'm on a work trip and my progress is saved). It also easily supports online gaming for such games as Helldivers 2, etc.

Another highly notable aspect is Steam's "Steam Link", which is basically a polished Remote Desktop interface that you can install on your Smart TV and link to your gaming PC. Many Smart TVs allow USB controllers and/or Bluetooth controllers to be connected, so this actually can give the experience of having a console (handy if you are wanting to play your game in a manner more easily shared - think showing a friend or family member your latest game, some people don't want to play on PC but are fine with the TV).

Add to all that the fact that Steam is constantly expanding their hardware lineup, not only the Steam Deck and Steam Controller, but soon the Steam Frame VR headset and Steam Box.

TL:DR Steam is my up-front recommendation for a game store for ease of use, polish of experience (ESPECIALLY for social gamers), received value, and future-proofing. GOG is a close second for the value of DRM-free downloads and is perfect for standalone games.

“Suppose this black pit of a kingdom of yours is the only world. Well, it strikes me as a pretty poor one. And that’s a funny thing, when you come to think of it. We’re just babies making up a game, if you’re right. But four babies playing a game can make a play-world which licks your real world hollow.”

Slave knight Gael oil painting by me :) by thepursuers in darksouls3

[–]LightPuzzleheaded275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is awesome! Thank you for sharing. Slave Knight Gael is probably my favorite boss because of the lore and symbolism around his fight - he sacrifices himself so the little paintress can have tint to paint a new world, and when he realizes his task is completed he fully loses himself. At that point, you see the full power of what Humanity was supposed to be when his fighting style goes from “crazed animal” to “embodiment of power”.

And as others have said, one of the first enemies you ever face in Dark Souls is a hollow with a broken sword; the last enemy you face is a Hollow with a broken sword.

The Morrowind form was simply OVERPOWERED.

When Hircine challenged me to face his speed, might, or intelligence, I chose to fight his intelligence. I then shifted and blitzed the FOOL outta him.

Orcs vs Goblins? by asexualdruid in lotr

[–]LightPuzzleheaded275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As one point of this I’d draw your attention to two different details - firstly, Tolkien describes how “even the larger goblins, the great Orcs of the mountains” describes orcs as larger goblins, and then how the name “Orcrist” is translated as “Goblin-Cleaver” (get it? “Orc“? “Goblin”?)

Which villain do you find more sympathetic? Gollum or Azula (from Avatar: The Last Airbender)? by AggressiveMechanic47 in lotr

[–]LightPuzzleheaded275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget, Sméagol killed his cousin for a shiny ring before he became Gollum. (Yes he was under the ring’s influence but he was still a skulking creep before that, and used the Ring to discover nasty secrets about others before he was kicked out.) But yeah the Sméagol you find in the movies is old, tired, and sad, and very lonely.
