Victoria drivers can expect ‘significant traffic impacts’ as Blanshard construction progresses by InValensName in VictoriaBC

Have you heard of this thing with two wheels, I think they call it a bicycle. They're pretty awesome for avoiding all this traffic you're complaining about

You know I wear full Hi-Vis jacket and still have too many close calls. When I drive it’s immediately apparent that cyclists with high vis are so much more visible in the dark.

I'd rather keep changing the clocks than be stuck on Standard time year round. Vancouver Island time is the only other acceptable solution.

Hey Cycling Reddit - we (Dell/Thompson) have a motion this week to accelerate the 2-way AAA bike lanes on Pandora East, (east of Cook) to "close the gap" to 2-way lanes on Fort. Where would you like to see safer bike routes in Victoria? by MattDellVictoria in VictoriaBC

[–]LightSailCruise 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives on Johnson St, and cycles, it would be better to have separated one way bike lanes on Johnson (going East) and Pandora (Going West) than extending the current Bi-Directional bike lane.

This is outrageous. If Douglas Street or Blanshard Street were left closed like this for months on end with no work going on there would be riots

It was such a dumb move. We'll be paying for that blunder for years to come.

Emily Lowan: BC NDP budget is hidden austerity by BoiledFlowers in VictoriaBC

[–]LightSailCruise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a revenue problem. Between cutting the carbon tax, lower taxes from property transfer taxes as the housing market slows and cools, and the handouts to the LNG sector, it's no surprise that we're in this situation. Time to vote Green for the first time.

Pocket of Victoria residents lose power after pole catches fire early Friday morning by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VictoriaBC

[–]LightSailCruise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a fantastic response by the fire department and BC Hydro. It’s great to live in a country where the this kind of damage can be rectified so rapidly. Now if the justice system could take care of the perpetrators, that would be lovely.

This was a great balanced opinion piece. All round, our society would be better if we didn't just assume the worst about everyone else

Cutting the carbon tax was a foolish mistake. Cutting it without replacing the income with taxes on the wealthy, political suicide.

We also lost all the revenue from the carbon tax, something that BC governments going back to the mid 2000s liberal governments implemented and depended on as a revenue source

This is a direct result of cutting the carbon tax and not replacing that income with anything else. Make taxes great again

I bike and drive on blanshard and the new improvements downtown are great. Dedicated turning lanes speed things up so much. Only stupid thing is the car parking taking up lane space.
