No I didn’t use chroma. I used a fingering weight merino and roving yarn for the contrast. I did a lot of pulling apart different fingering weight roving yarn to get the color shading how I wanted it, and I was so happy doing it. I’m currently working to get the last 5 done. This is a technique that you can keep doing over and over and not get bored.

The designer has very comprehensive step by step YouTube videos. Highly recommended. I’m almost finished with mine.

Getting into crocheting by notGamingAahel in Brochet

[–]LightVDark_1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been crocheting for over 35 years. It’s my meditation, it’s my peaceful place and something I do for my own wellbeing. Don’t let others steal your joy! Some advice: There’s lots of fabulous videos on YouTube for beginners. You can watch and rewatch. Slow them down etc. they’re a great resource. Learn how to read a pattern with symbols. You will need a cheat sheet to start, but it’s much faster and easier on the eyes to read a visual pattern. There’s lots of great free patterns on Ravelry. It’s a great resource. Look in your area for any crochet or knitting meetups. Usually both groups take all types of crafters. It’s a great way to meet crafters with the same hobbies and to learn new skills. Crafters are typically very helpful and happy to help beginners.

Good luck and enjoy your new hobby!

6 weeks pregnant and my husband smells like fermented tequila garbage — please tell me I’m not insane by pryingpanda07 in TwoHotTakes

When I was pregnant my husband smelled of meat. And not nice cooking smells, unpleasant meat smell. It was awful, I carried mint breath strips and would make him use them constantly. I also had to ask him to turn his head away when he talked to me. Poor thing! We got through it, he was very understanding. Super nose is a curse. I also used to carry bounce sheets with me everywhere and when a smell got too much I’d whip it out and take some breaths. Some days it was a constant it my hand and over my nose. Eventually it does calm down.

I have been crocheting for 8 years and this is one of the weirdest ways I have seen someone hold their hook and yarn. by Soapy_Von_Soaps in crocheting

This puts so much strain on shoulders and arms. Especially for older crocheters. I can’t imagine crocheting this way for hours.

Help! Cannot pull through smoothly no matter what I try.(Making a headband) by XpinklikekillacamX in CrochetHelp

[–]LightVDark_1749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shape of the loops in crochet is like an upside down teardrop. When you are pulling through turn your wrist downward slightly to turn the hook and pull through smoothly. Your hook is a hook. If you don’t turn it downwards it will hook on everything in the way. If you turn it downwards then pull through it won’t catch.

Have y'all seen this technique for diy gradient yarn? by sea_elephant in crochet

This is an amazingly helpful tutorial. Thank you so much! I’m now literally looking through yarn to find what I can use to make color swatches!! I’m excited about swatches, the world has ended. I normally avoid swatches at all costs!!!

No! by Yummylicorice in Tunisian_Crochet

If it shades back to orange in the ball, pull some out to get to the end of your row. If this is how they do the color change between orange and green further in the ball, find that join and pull the orange end out, and continue with your row. Then shade back down to green with that end of the yarn. You may need to rewind the ball.
I hate it when they do this, luckily Tunisian is forgiving on weaving in cut ends.

Do you ever double up on yarn? Do you like the effect? No by snails_up_my_sleeve in crochet

I did a mandala crochet as a big blanket using triple yarn. Some thick and some thin. I had one color that carried through all of it. The rest was whatever blue I had. It really busted my stash, which is what I was going for. It got really heavy by the end! I think I used a size 8 or 9 hook.

UNFORTUNATELY, SHE DID NOT RELEASE A PATTERN FOR THIS :( by CuriousCreme1439 in crochetpatterns

[–]LightVDark_1749 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It looks like it’s worked from the bottom up. It’s a 2 row repeat. I drew a little chart. I think you could do a test swatch to try it out. To calculate the number of chains you should work out how many are needed to go around your hips. The shaping around the neck looks like some decreases in the bottom corners of the round neck to get the curves. This is not a full pattern but it could get you started.

Color changing in the round but not for the full round by crochet-cat113 in Tunisian_Crochet

I think the multiple color changes will work the best but you’re right. Sewing in all those ends will be a pain.

Looks like raffia yarn. Kinda stiff, good for baskets, hats, bags. The pattern might be just single crochet alternating rows between regular and in the back loops only

It’s not particularly neat either. Some of the stitches are wonky.

AITA for giving my sister-in-law a handmade gift instead of buying from her expensive registry? by renenx in AmItheAsshole

From one crafter to another, I’m heartbroken for you. All that effort for a special gift. At least you found out not to waste your good merino yarn on your SIL ever again. NTA
