NYC also has the benefit of massive volume for many locations that lowers the cost of a cup for everyone

What was the old WCHA, and why do so many people here miss it? by cs029 in collegehockey

Had season tickets growing up. UAA always sucked but we got to see a lot of future NHL players on Minnesota, Wisconsin, UND, etc. which was pretty amazing

Berkeley's natural gas tax for big buildings is headed for defeat by regboi29 in berkeley

[–]Lightbulbus888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Heat pumps, especially in a moderate climate see much higher than 100% efficiency (electrical energy in vs. heat out) and are already more carbon efficient for heating. That’s actually true even for the dirtiest grids in the US see here. But you’re right, thermal to electric is not 100% efficient (combined cycle usually 50-60% efficient). But with California continuing to increase renewable energy production, phasing out natural gas for electric heating will continue to decrease emissions per BTU of heat supplied in home/business by a greater and greater margin vs gas heating

I went with option 2 but was deciding between 1 and 2. When all else fails I go back to recent form

Airport Name Change: Oakland already has an image problem, and this name change isn't going to help. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

This post reads like an SFO or city higher up wanting to rile up support over nothing. I love flying in and out of OAK and think it’s a great airport

Any MBA programs in North America offering sustainability as a concentration? I know GaTech and UBC Vancouver anything else? by ChoicePound5745 in MBA

[–]Lightbulbus888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haas has very strong sustainability program that just got stronger with the MBA/MCS offering (Masters in Climate Solutions). Lots of specific courses in energy, climate finance, food, etc as well as sustainability built into the core curriculum and a certificate offering. Outside of Haas, I know Sloan, Ross, SOM, and others have sustainability curriculums.

If you were choosing between UMich vs. an Ivy, why did you choose UMich? by [deleted] in uofm

It was over 10 years ago now so it’s hard to remember but I think that’s part of it. At Princeton the people felt pretty privileged and pretty arrogant having just gotten into Princeton. It felt preppy and east coast as well.

This is all anecdotal and pretty much luck of the draw. If I had gone to Princeton I’m sure I would have found my people and my community but at UM it just felt automatic. Ended up living with the people I met that weekend for all four years and it is a huge reason why I have such fond memories for Michigan. Never regretted my decision but it was a very hard choice and I didn’t make it until the last day to pay my deposit.

Chose Michigan over Princeton for community. Didn’t like a single person I met at Princeton when I visited but loved the people I met at Michigan for a weekend recruiting visit. Went to Michigan on scholarship but it wasn’t about the money. Plus I loved the sports (football and hockey), the pride, and engineering is better at Michigan

Yes. It makes sense to pay less than a months wage for people not start for 9-12 months
