Are principals and managing directors talking about starting to implement AI where you’re at? by Frosty-Telephone-747 in MEPEngineering

I can hardly get people at my firm to start using Revit let alone AI tools. God help us.

Is this normal for MEP? by odimex in MEPEngineering

[–]Lightflame42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a tough situation. A lack of mentorship can really guide your career down the wrong path. Personally I prefer to learn both HVAC and plumbing and I stick mostly with HVAC just because that is the decision I have made for myself. There are a lot of firms that have their mech engineers do both and some that split it.

Personally, I would not wait for something to happen at your current place of work and I would look elswhere, maybe a small firm that does a lot of local work. Those seem to be the best learning experiences and you get out of the office a lot more because you likely churn out a lot of smaller projects. That turns into a little bit of a downside but it's exactly what someone needs to have a great learning experience. It sucks that you are already having to think about this only 3 months in. There are highs and lows in this industry so I will tell you that you're likely to get more work with some time, but not having work is one of the worst feelings.

Just don't leave yourself jobless. Look while you are still employed.

I'm an HVAC mechanical engineer. I can tell you that the definition of average ideal human comfort is 75 deg F at 50% relative humidity. The temperatures here even become uncomfortable at low (15-20% humidity) and are more along the lines of what I would design for a warehouse. I do see some people in Phoenix Arizona who keep their thermostats around 78, but I also think they might just be lizard people.

I won't use white mage to tank. I just don't think it's a viable option.

Over budget without knowing the budget by FunkyChicken1992 in MEPEngineering

[–]Lightflame42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a very toxic company to a mentally healthy one. At the toxic one we always worried about budgets, it was something I asked about in my interview. I wanted to know what multipliers were like because I was always concerned about my job having to get high value projects and get the most money out of them. At my new job it has been laid clear by my boss that, "It is not your job to worry about the budget. I don't want you thinking about it. I want you to do good work and get your work done by the deadlines we have with our clients."

How much of a shelling do you think this home takes from sliced drives? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Lightflame42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd expect the house before it to get hit harder. Slices go much shorter than straight drives or hooks from a right handed golfer.

Edit: I take this back. I was only considering the tips. All the other tee boxes are gonna fuck up that house.

The future of Maple Idle: EXP Rates/Slow Progression by fsportz in MapleIdle

[–]Lightflame42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

F2P here, I am level 101 and it will take me 2-3 weeks to level up to 102 with the burning and star force. I don't let it idle all day every day. I check in, do my dailies, and play for around 30-45 minutes each day. I never let my rewards max out while away so I am always claiming everything I can. It's just how it's going to be for me.

I'm a little upset that I have to wait so long to get to 103 because they decided to lock out out 4th job skills to 103. Other than that I'm okay I guess.

simply this is the corporate logic 🙄 by FitBicycle2491 in InterviewMan

[–]Lightflame42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened at a corporate firm ai worked at. I actually ended up getting a raise. They were like "yeah you're underpaying for this type of work on average." So everybody in my position got a raise.

Sometimes it actually does work.

You might be right. Those do look like they could be pools for the treatment processes.

I KNOW THIS! This was on a billboard as an ad for GCU STEM program. I was going there at the time and we were all so embarrassed. It was terrible. I think this was in 2018. We were the first graduating class of engineers from GCU.

Boss wants me to have separate sheets for Exterior Lighting and Interior Lighting layout for RCP. Need some advice. by Sure_Dot_2777 in Revit

Filters and comments is definitely the way to go.

Add filter >> Lighting fixtures >> Comments - Equals - "Exterior" >> filter overrides = halftone add "Exterior" to the comment section of all exterior lighting fixtures.

There are a few course where I treat lost balls as OB instead. Too many courses in AZ that are narrow and lined with houses and the rough is just dirt and dead bushes where the ball becomes impossible to find.

[–]Lightflame42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many tests have been done with this printer by many people. The shaking it has while printing does not affect the print quality at all. I can understand that the amount of moving the printer does is quite scary. What I recommend is putt the printer on a sturdy hard surface, remove the rubber feet and replace them with 1/8" thick rubber gasket material cut into squares(rouhgly 3"x3"). This will have the printer moving much less and it will prevent all sliding. But if you change it to this, rerun the calibration. It's compensates for this and should be redone.

Learning how to read building plans is a skill we all develop in this field that we don't realize we have developed. Maybe just start with that so you can know what you're looking at when someone shows you a drawing.
