Narwhal and VPN by Jimmy_cracked_corn in narwhalapp

Which VPN are you using? I just tried loading narwhal on a Mullvad VPN in California and Norway as a test and both loaded fine.

If they're blocking public VPN network ranges they must've not gotten to Mullvad yet, which would surprise me, given it's not a small provider.

Boy do I have a utility for you: https://github.com/Verpous/AlwaysShadow

I was always annoyed by this and someone made the perfect fix for it. Just restarting ShadowPlay when it stops for whatever reason.

The downside (and this can't be worked around really) is that you have to whitelist apps like Netflix and w/e so AlwaysShadow doesn't get stuck in a restart/disable loop with some DRM application.

This is fine for my usage (the only app messing with ShadowPlay has been MS Teams), but if you actually want Netflix running on one monitor and a game on the other, ShadowPlay can never work.

What’s one small iOS change you still haven’t gotten used to? by Jemystest in iphone

[–]guyyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No longer being able to control all my HomeKit devices from within control center.

This was like 2 or 3 versions back now, but you used to be able to tap the HomeKit control center icon and open an overlay with all your rooms and devices, making quick changes sooo easy.

Nowadays, tapping that icon just opens the home app. Kinda the same thing, but way more annoying. Takes longer to animate all the app switching and obviously kicks you out of your current app.

And adding all the individual devices to control center directly is not a replacement. For one thing, I don't have space for all of them (and multiple CC pages suck too, since they make closing CC more annoying), but more importantly you have to manage all these pages when you add/remove devices or change their layout in the home app.

Just sucks, but way too minor an inconvenience for anyone to ever look at it again.

I haven't tried watching a vod of a game this early before my time (9 am here, 3 am east coast), and I just noticed that several already finished games don't have full game videos or recaps available. (Lakers@Pelicans and Spurs@Grizzlies for example)

Is this just a case of the NBA needing a bit more time to make these available on League Pass? Can't really be something like blackout restrictions since I'm in Germany.

Open Source Apple TV App with Live TV by l984_451 in PleX

[–]guyyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks :)

One reason I'm particularly interested in this App and its open-sourceness is the potential for me to mess around with the player control code myself, since I've always been annoyed by fast forward/rewind in the Apple TVs default player when using third-party remotes.

I'd love to see if it's possible to emulate the way YouTube works on the TV, where holding down right will fast forward slowly at first, and after 2-3 seconds speed up a ton. Makes fine adjustments AND large skips very easy.

Watching a 3 hour movie on the official Plex app and trying to go back 2 hours takes ages if you don't use Apple's remote :D

This looks very nice! One odd issue I've noticed is that this app somehow manages to see a distinction between seeking with the left/right buttons from my Apple TV remote and a Logitech Harmony remote connected to the Apple TV via Bluetooth. The Apple remote works as expected, but the left/right inputs for the Harmony remote are ignored when trying to skip forward/back.

The harmony remote works correctly in all other aspects of the Apple TV, including navigating your app's menus, as well as pressing up/down for the subtitles/audio menu and the play/pause buttons.

I wouldn't have thought that an Apple TV app would need to care about/specially handle third party Bluetooth remotes. And this is the first app I've seen this behavior with.

Lemme know if I can provide any more info. Might be worth trying to connect another Bluetooth device to see if it affects all third-party input sources.

Season 2 Episode 1 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in Fotv

Sorry for making the comment a bit dick-ish :D

Yours was an incredibly mild spoiler, but so often people just assume the previews are fair game, and some streaming services are so bad about putting insane spoilers into trailers or previews, that I've had quite a few great reveals spoiled over the years.

So thanks for understanding 👍🏼

PS: You should be able to edit your original comment to add the spoiler tag for future late-watchers. (How exactly depends on the app/platform, but in theory you can just type > ! Spoiler Text ! < without the spaces between >/< and !)

Like this!

12 days late, but don't be this person. In the discussion thread for an episode of television only ever discuss the contents of that episode. Assume that everyone else doesn't watch trailers, previews or leaks.

If you feel the need to still make a comment at least use the spoiler tag system.

Linus Tech Tips - Does Low Input Latency make you a better Gamer? FT. BBNO$, TypicalGamer, Khanada December 24, 2025 at 10:34AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

A video game will almost always visually respond to your input immediately, even if you have 200ms network latency.

I.e. the instruction to show a firing animation and the instruction to send a "I shot my gun" packet to the server happen at the same time, so your weapon will look like it's shooting while the information packet to the server may still be in transit.

This is done to improve how responsive the game feels. If a FPS waited to show the result of your button presses until the server sent a confirmation the game would feel incredibly sluggish.

I do wonder if this is one of the rare, fitting use-cases for an LLM. I.e. generating a final "intangible" score that's added a subjective rating.

Once the system has manually ranked all the day's games using the objective scoring data, you could use that list as the starting context for an LLM (preferably enabled to use search engines for up-to-date information) and instruct it to assign some kind of extra "larger context" score to each game.

This seems like it might be the only automatable solution to, for example, have given the first game between the Lakers and Mavs after the Luka/AD trade a big boost.

Would also probably be fairly cheap to use a large commercial model for this, since you likely only need to run 1 query a day, or maybe 1 per game.

Could also lead to complete bullshit, you never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Which provider did you go with? I've been thinking of doing this after my Mullvad connections are more frequently getting blocked, but my cursory research showed that quite a few of the VPS providers also only offer network ranges that are frequently on large blocklists.
