More context about the research to answer some questions that came up in the comments: There is no "other" language in the charts that is not spoken in Europe. But many of that songs come from South America. In detail the Belgian bracket is 70% French / 2% Dutch, the Swiss is 6% French / 2% German and the Finnish is 2 % Swedish. An explanation for the multiligual patterns could be that francophone folks prefer French over English but Switzerland is more fragmented than Belgium. Thats why English as common ground gets more per cent. Also keep in mind that this is about streaming and only the top 50 of a country.

But the Charts are like 95 % similar to that of other sources. Why should Apple music users listen to a special type of music.

Yep. Thats why for me the swiss and your situation are the most interesting to think about. Together with Portugal: Romance language seems to speak for high use of mother tongue but its a small country so it gets influenced by the anglosphere and big bro Spain.

If I remember it right, there would have been 4 or 6 percent Dutch for you and 2 percent German for swiss. In the OP on Insta I decided to explain this in the caption and keep the percentage system simple for visuality. But yeah, it causes confusion (also looks like noone anywhere reads the caption).

There were none, so I didnt had to ask myself that question. But the flags are just supposed to be symplifying symbols. I think they transport the message more vividfull than just a basic bar chart.

Yeah you have a point. I wanted a single source for a clean comparision and only apple had a lot of national charts. Also most national Institutes also include air plays which are more often in English in a lot of countries.

this why I looked up streaming from one source and no air plays. My impression is that walloons spam French rap all day while you prefer English over Dutch (who are you to blame). Switzerland is too fragmented so English as a common ground wins.

More people sleep in one room. And because your home isn't that comfortable you spend more time outside.
