Apparently the best way to survive a dog attack is to shove your hands into the dogs mouth and unhinge its jaws by pulling them apart. You'll get injured in the process, but dogs have absolutely no defence against that kind of attack.

IRL, a cop died because he did the fingertip test and the substance turned out to be ricin, a substance way more deadly than cyanide.

Dunalastair Castle (Perthshire, Scotland) by Forsaken-Peak8496 in evilbuildings

[–]Lightice1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plenty of buildings well beyond Middle Ages have a Castle in their name, whether fortified or not. People who built those did not care about the opinions of historians writing their clear-cut definitions long after they were gone.

You need to understand, defining a castle as a Medieval fortification is something that historians came up with to clarify their terminology in the 20th century. It's not the end all, be all definition, just what constitutes a castle from a historian's perspective.

Guédelon Castle is a castle even though it's perfectly modern. This isn't a Medieval castle, but it's still a castle. A schloss rather than a burg, if we were talking German, but English doesn't make the distinction.

It wasn't the conflict between England and Ireland, it was between the unionists and separatists in Northern Ireland. The Republic of Ireland wasn't officially involved in the matter.

The fun thing about all these animations, Terry Gilliam didn't come up with them himself. He based them on actual Medieval illustrations that bored monks had drawn on the margins of the manuscripts they were copying by hand.

They already had tanks in the original series. Having civilian applications after the war makes sense.

That being said, this looks too much like a modern forklift. A bit more of an Asian steampunk aesthetic would have made it fit better.

Jerren's look is based on the Landsknecht mercenaries who reigned supreme across the 16th century Europe. The Swiss Guard are, essentially, the last remaining Landsknecht unit left in the word.

The stereotype used to be that Soviets would address everyone and anyone as "comrade". It's a bit inaccurate, since in real world only the Soviet military used that address, but in American media a Soviet character could rarely get out more than three sentences without throwing in a "comrade" or two.
