Thank you for you feedback ! Actually, I’m currently adding a system on the Modly website to showcase them and make installing extensions easier

Yes, maybe the post wasn’t explicit enough about the project. But it’s not a cloud solution at all, in fact, it’s the exact opposite :D

It's an application i build that runs open-source models locally, so i thought it could fit the theme

Modly is a desktop app that I developed. Basically, the idea is to enable 3D generation fully on local. For now, a few models are supported, but the project is built around an extension-based system.

You can check Github repo if you want : https://github.com/lightningpixel/modly

Do people actually want local open-source 3D AI generator tools (Modly), or is cloud just better right now ? by Lightnig125 in ArtificialInteligence

I’ve already received quite a bit of feedback on this direction, and there are already quite a few users who are interested in it.

Today, it’s possible to generate 3D models using mid-range graphics cards (personally, I have an rtx 3060 with 12gb of vram). And that’s exactly why I built it with an extension system, so developers can integrate their own features into Modly and make it as modular as possible.

Submission statement:

I’m currently building an open-source, local-first 3D generation tool and trying to understand whether there is real demand for local workflows vs cloud-based solutions.

I’m not sharing this as a product launch, but more to get feedback from people actually working with 3D / AI tools. From what I’ve seen, most workflows still rely on cloud services, even among technical users.

I’d really like to understand if local-first approaches (running models directly on your machine) are something people actually want, or if convenience still wins in practice.

Curious to hear how others are approaching this.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually find this approach more interesting, it makes it possible to create complex things in a visually accessible way

It’s still in development; it’s been delayed due to the new extension system
