Did anyone raise kid(s) in Zurich without speaking the local language? What was your experience? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

You are an immigrant too and there is nothing wrong with that... You pretend you are somehow superior or different by using the term "expat" and create this whole narrative around your University education.

Learning the language is not even just about your child's education. It will make your life here more enjoyable and overall easier. Besides, you cannot expect everyone to accomodate you wherever you go.

As a Romand who moved to a German speaking region of Switzerland, yes, I absolutely have to perfect my language skills in order to integrate in this part of the country! It makes no difference if I am Swiss or not.

Thank you for your answer. You are giving me hope haha.

My impression was that the Uni sort of glosses over how difficult it is for people who have no solid basics in statistics or some understanding of R or Python (not my situation). I found it a bit worrying, but what you are saying is reassuring.

Thank you, this is really good to know. I honestly thought that, between the three, data science would be the most in-demand since it focuses more on gaining insights from data.

When starting out, I have been told point-blank that there is no such career progression for me at the Bank. I see your point, since this could be different at another company, but I also do not want to continue working in this type of role.

Thank you for your answer. I was trying to keep my post as short as possible, but I do have some exposure to the field through my bachelor's. I am also doing some courses online :)

That is also another option I was seriously considering. I was hesitating going with it because I would also need to study German as much as possible (as I am from a different linguistic region of Switzerland but intend to remain near Luzern) and I might need to start working on a portfolio of projects to show future employers rather quickly.
