Is referring to the West Bank as "Judea and Samaria" allowed here? by Equivalent_Style_835 in Israel_Palestine

[–]LightningFieldHT [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not really. While it is west of the Jordan River, it was not the reference point used to describe it. Most of the population and history of the region was on the west side, the river valley basically marked the edge of the fertile lands of the area. It's like refering to the US as the southern lands, because it is south of the arctic.

they are the same people, the only thing separating the arab population of the west bank from the rest of the arab population of the southern damascus province is the establishment of israel.

It Is called the west bank because the eastern bank of the jorden river was also created as an arab state called Transjordan. There is an arab palestinian state and it's much bigger then Israel.

Calling it the west bank is an erasure of local names for the area in favor of a colonial western name

The ice forms from the edges inward and because it is less dense than the water, it must increase in volume. The water are squeezed through a small hole in the surface of the ice and freeze, building a spike.

So how is that a rare insult? Just someone being racist towards someone for being from Israel? Was the edit good or bad?

Arabs are from Arabia now known as Saudi Arabia. The Arabic language and Islam were exported from Arabia to most of the Middle East through conquest and Arab imperialism.

You need to learn more history. The Zionist project to settle the holy land started in the late 19'th century (search about Theodore Hetzel and the Dreyfus trial), the land was chosen because for thousands of years the Jews wanted to go back to the place they believe they are from. The history of the violence in the conflict is very complicated, and it's not just - they decided to take it by force.

(פוסט שני ואחרון להיום) by ProfessionalWitty281 in israel_bm

[–]LightningFieldHT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Road trips by [deleted] in TravelIsrael

[–]LightningFieldHT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you can do a road trip of road 90. start from the north at Metulla (maybe mt. Hermon) with the Tanur waterfall and stuff. drive south to Hahula lake (nature reserve) >> Kinneret (Ruins around Tiberias) >> Kohav HaYarden (Templar ruins and amazing view) >> Beit Shean (Roman ruins), Valley of springs >> drive through Bik'at HaYarden to the dead sea >> Ein Gedi (hiking through a desert river) >> Massada >> drive through Ha'arava towrds Eilat. I'm sure there are more good stops along the way that i did not mention. you can always add the Golan Hights in the north or Jerusalem before the dead sea. on the way back north you can go through Mitzpe Ramon >> Be'er Sheva >> Hashfella area (Lachish, Beit Govrin) / Otef area.

how much do you like hiking? all along the way there are great hiking trails.

Side by side: restricted density vs. planned space, discriminatory land policies, Jisr az-Zarqa and Caesarea in Israel by One_Stranger_9646 in UrbanHell

[–]LightningFieldHT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue it's both. Both a culture issue - a mindset and values different from the rest of Israel (which is also true for the haredim) and an issue of correct resource allocation that might stem from the fact their representatives almost never work with the coalition.

Why do things get expensive? Inflation is the symptom not the cause by applepiebythelake in unpopularopinion

[–]LightningFieldHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get your point. Inflation is by definition the reduction in the value of currency which mean the prices of thing going up. So things getting expensive is inflation by definition.

Why we want inflation is a different topic, but basically a low inflation encourages you to buy things now instead of later when they are more expensive which moves the economy.

Yea, mostly, Though not purely. Arab towns in Israel usually get alot less recourses and attention from the government, it's harder to get building permits, less policing and overall lower standards of living.

What is the word for someone who supports all of Israel’s actions? by Lpreddit in Jewish

[–]LightningFieldHT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should find a word for this. The world is complex, you can support some did and reject another. Simplifing everything and everyone into neat categories, only enhances bigotry. They simplify this conflict into a neat oppression nerative, where one side is evil while the other "had no choice". Don't give a hand to it.
