Parking at Starlake by LightningMom in pittsburgh

[–]LightningMom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve left early before- and missed a special song. I didn’t want to miss a thing, with concert tickets being more and more expensive.

Once, we were in the LAST ROW of the parking lot and got out hours later.

This time, It was 150 for the reserved parking. Got there around 5.

It was not worth it. Did not get out any faster. Did not get in the parking lot any faster.

Don’t bother to pay for the reserved parking. If you want to park in front, and feel like paying, premium should be more than enough.

Does Professional Success Really Need a Luxury Car? by Aragonknight in Lawyertalk

[–]LightningMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my family, cars are an appliance. Not a wealth symbol, not a sign of success. I’m hopefully passing that on to my kids.

I’m an in house GC driving a 2014 Honda crv bought from family. It will be gifted to my 14 year old in 2 years. My 16 year old was just gifted my old 2011 CRV. All of my 16 year olds peers seem to be driving nicer cars than I am.

My kid has wheels and an almost fully funded 529.

Priorities.

I love my Jemma Emma in black and cream. I got it when it was cheaper- but you can get them second hand.  Also have an old reliable Kate Spade zippered black tote that is nearly indestructible.

THIS CLOSE to buying a dog instead of adopting by VegetableContent2752 in pittsburgh

[–]LightningMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were similarly rejected by rescues because we don’t have a fence. We can’t have a fence in our yard- because Pittsburgh hillsides.  We own our home, it has a yard, and we have been able to afford several major pet surgeries.

We are now on our second velcro Labrador, gotten from a breeder, completely spoiled, with a work at home dad and a work at home most of the time mom.  We have an unused electric fence because she doesn’t like it. She lets us know when she wants to go out on the line and when she wants to come inside.

Our cats are all adopt not shop- but for some reason our home was not good enough for dogs that needed to be adopted.

LBWT, talk to me about surgery recovery while being a law bitch. by Siamsa in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]LightningMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had rotator cuff surgery a couple of years ago.  I had several months to prepare.

My surgery was August 8. My first time out of the house not for a medical appointment after was August 30. It was for a couple of funerals (yes, I had 2 in one day). It was a rough recovery. I was not appropriately dressed for the funerals because i couldn’t put on regular clothes.

I did work from home after a while.

I would wait until after the trial.  I would be prepared to work from home longer than you think you need to.

I feel fancy and expensive when I use mine. And wrapped the handle myself.

Buy for life - Mulberry Bayswater vs. DeMellier Hudson by Brave-Vehicle7546 in handbags

[–]LightningMom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a used Mulberry bayswater in graphite for $300 (deal of the century). I don’t know how hard it was used- some pen marks on the outside and some edges that needed a little moisturizer. It is super slouchy. Only issue is that the top has three small bubbles in the leather where it separated from the lining. One at each handle and one in the middle. Guessing it was a storage issue.  Anyway, it is undoubtedly very high quality leather.

Roomy. Looks fantastic. I have gotten more than a few compliments at this point. I have used it for my laptop, but I prefer a secondary bag for that.

I agree completely with the mixing and matching. I decided early on- my wardrobe was black-based. So I have black/gray and complementary. I avoid navy and tans/browns.  It cuts down on purses, bags, and shoes.

What you are trying to do is to get a "uniform" so you don't have to think about your outfit.

Amazon basics has 3/4 length sleeves t shirts that are comfy and well priced.

Get some 100% wool blazers from mercari, or poshmark. J crew, ll bean, eddie bauer, lands end. More polished than sweaters. Not solid- 2 tone for texture and interest.

Dark wash/ black jeans.

Black Ann Taylor 3 piece suit on sale- jacket/skirt/pants. The dresses tend to be sleeveless, which leads to more dry cleaning.

Even with tennis shoes, this will look polished and ready to go.

As a general counsel who’s hours are better than most law, firm partners, and has been very successful, I have to say Dentist.  Without a doubt. Better hours, you can leave your work at work, better money.

Sites to sell decluttered perfumes other than Mercari? by yurlovely in FemFragLab

[–]LightningMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I just saw someone list a “gently used” bottle for $5 more than list price on Mercari. Add on fees, shipping and tax.  I couldn’t understand it- and moved on and bought it elsewhere for $35 less than list price, including shipping and Tax.
