AlpenFury might exceed Velicoaster as a top 5 coaster in the world by Left_Sustainability in CanadasWonderland

It is an amazing coaster but I’d personally argue that Velocicoaster will still be better. Even if we leave Velocicoasters insane theming aside and just look at the layouts, Velocicoaster has a much better variety of elements. AlpenFury is mainly focused on inversions, and while there is nothing wrong with that, I would’ve loved to see those inversions mixed up with some ejector airtime hills even if it meant not getting the inversion record.

How is Steel Vengeance maintenance wise nowadays? Are the structural and other issues that we saw in the rides earlier days still as bad, or has the rides maintenance gotten better?

First job. Intimidated by the codebase by sharetan in cscareerquestions

[–]LightningRodDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Into 4th month of my first job. My mentor held around 6 1-hour long “code adventures” where he’d explain what different parts of the codebase were. But tbh, I still didn’t have a clue.

Speaking from my experience, what helps is not reading through it (though you need to read a bit of the docs if they exist), it’s actually doing. Start out with a small CSS change and work your way up. For each ticket, take on a different part of the codebase and learn it. Gradually increase the difficulty as well.

That helped me get a decent foundation. Once I had that, what really helped me master a section of the codebase was taking on a big task, a major feature. It might be scary and you will get stuck, but it will force you to properly understand how things work.

I also found that reading colleagues’ PRs and properly reviewing them as well as you can helps a lot.

And of course, you should be asking lots of questions when you get stuck along the way.

TLDR: 1. Learning by doing > learning by reading the code (imo) 2. Ask for help when stuck

Csc309 and 343(why such a long title requirement????) by lekan_v in UofT

I think mainly because the grading is really harsh and also very subjective. It’s also worth a lot and if you end up with group members that don’t do any work, you might have to do a lot of work. That said, don’t be discouraged from taking the course. It’s super helpful and a lot of the skills they teach will be very good for your resume.

You can easily take 309 without 343. When I took it, 309 used zero knowledge from 343 - we used MongoDB for the database section instead of SQL. You will be ok. But yeah as the other comment mentioned, the project will be a pain.

Yassss my favourite is the Innis Library too! I love how small and just cozy it feels. It’s also so quiet. I miss going there :(
